Acampar puede ser una de las experiencias que hay que hacer por lo menos una vez en la vida ¿Estás de acuerdo? Y más si eres de los que está en la constante búsqueda de conectar a profundidad con la naturaleza. Sin embargo, acampar también tiene su lado no tan bonito pero que forma parte de la experiencia y hoy te quiero contar esa otra cara de un viaje que hice a El Diamante, una cascada hermosa ubicada en el estado Yaracuy, en Venezuela.

Camping can be one of the experiences that you have to do at least once in your life, do you agree? And even more so if you are one of those who are in constant search of connecting deeply with nature. However, camping also has its not so nice side but that is part of the experience and today I want to tell you about the other side of a trip I made to El Diamante, a beautiful waterfall located in the state of Yaracuy, in Venezuela.

Hace seis años fue mi primer campamento y aunque no fue en este lugar que te voy a mostrar desde entonces he intentado ir a acampar por lo menos una vez al año. Siempre con los mismos compañeros de viaje que aprovechamos cualquier fin de semana largo para escaparnos a una montaña super alejada de todo. Como este viaje, que usamos esos días del carnaval para ir a respirar aire fresco.
Six years ago was my first camping trip and although it was not in this place that I am going to show you since then I have tried to go camping at least once a year. Always with the same travel companions that we take advantage of any long weekend to escape to a mountain super far away from everything. Like this trip, we use those carnival days to go and breathe fresh air.
El viaje comenzó en el terminal de Barquisimeto, este es siempre nuestro punto de encuentro para partir a la aventura. Nuestro destino, llegar a San Felipe en el estado Yaracuy. Allí nos esperarían dos carritos para llevarnos por dos horas más hasta la hacienda donde comenzaría la caminata.
The trip started at the Barquisimeto terminal, this is always our meeting point to go on an adventure. Our destination was San Felipe in the state of Yaracuy. There, two carts would be waiting for us to take us for two more hours to the hacienda where the trek would begin.
Honestamente no recuerdo el nombre del lugar exacto donde estábamos, después de todo este campamento fue en febrero de 2023 y hasta ahorita es que te estoy echando el cuento. Pero bueno, lo importante es que por fin comenzaríamos a caminar.
I honestly don't remember the name of the exact place where we were, after all this camp was in February 2023 and I'm just now telling you the story. But well, the important thing is that we would finally start walking.
Y aquí es donde comienzan esas cosas que te mencionaba que no son tan bonitas de acampar. Comenzamos la caminata a pleno mediodía y con un sol radiante o mejor dicho a rajatabla, así atravesamos la zona de los ganados, siempre con cautela porque nunca se sabe. Y así fuimos hasta llegar al punto donde teníamos que subir dos cerros hasta alcanzar nuestro destino.
And this is where those less pleasant aspects of camping I mentioned start. We began the hike at high noon under a blazing sun, crossing the cattle grazing area with caution, because you never know what might happen. And so we continued until we reached the point where we had to climb two hills to reach our destination.
Hacer este tipo de escapadas de trekking cuando tienes rato siendo sedentaria es una malísima idea, porque ahora necesitas toda esa energía que no has ejercitado en un buen tiempo para subir esos cerritos con peso en la espalda, ¿Te he contado lo mucho que pesan las carpas?
Doing this kind of trekking escapades when you have been sedentary for a while is a very bad idea, because now you need all that energy that you haven't exercised in a while to climb those hills with weight on your back, have I told you how heavy the tents are?
El camino fue muy rudo, no te miento, por momentos me tenía que parar a recuperar el aliento porque el cuerpo no me daba para más. Pero una vez arriba, tocaba la parte más fácil de cuando subes una montaña, ir bajando. Aquí aproveche para hacer una pausa y admirar el paisaje que me recordaba al típico fondo de pantalla de Windows.
The road was very rough, I'm not lying, at times I had to stop to catch my breath because my body couldn't take it anymore. But once at the top, it was time for the easiest part of climbing a mountain, going down. Here I took the opportunity to pause and admire the landscape that reminded me of the typical Windows wallpaper.
Luego de casi dos horas de caminata se comenzaba a ver el punto de llegada. Aunque el campamento no lo armaríamos allí en la casita si no bajando el cerro, lo cierto es que faltaba poco. Allí todo estaba lleno de animales, gallinas, gatos un burro y otros más.
After almost two hours of walking, we could see the arrival point. Although we would not set up camp there in the little house but down the hill, the truth is that we were not far away. There everything was full of animals, chickens, cats, a donkey and others.
¡Por fin! por fin había llegado la hora de sacar la carpa y armar todo. En este momento lo que hicimos fue armar, comer e ir a caminar porque cerquita de allí estaba el primer pozo. Siempre la mejor parte de toda aventura donde tienes que caminar una buena distancia por supuesto es poder darte el primer chapuzón, la primera remojada, sacarte todo el sudor que ganaste a pulso cargando una maleta más pesada que tú.
Finally, it was time to take the tent out and set everything up. At this point what we did was to set up, eat and go for a walk because nearby was the first well. Always the best part of any adventure where you have to walk a good distance is of course to be able to take the first dip, the first soak, to take off all the sweat that you earned by carrying a heavier suitcase than you.
Siempre la mejor parte de toda aventura donde tienes que caminar una buena distancia por supuesto es poder darte el primer chapuzón, la primera remojada, sacarte todo el sudor que ganaste a pulso cargando una maleta más pesada que tú.
Always the best part of any adventure where you have to walk a good distance is of course to be able to take your first dip, your first soak, to wash off all the sweat you've worked up carrying a suitcase heavier than you are.
Por lo general la primera noche todo el mundo quiere es dormir, descansar para tener la energía al día siguiente para poder disfrutar del rio y en esta ocasión no era la excepción, cada uno se encerró en su carpa a dormir.
Usually the first night everyone wants to sleep, rest to have the energy the next day to enjoy the river and on this occasion was no exception, everyone locked themselves in their tents to sleep.
Al siguiente día lo primero que se monta es el café y después de desayunar nos fuimos de inmediato a recorrer la cascada de El Diamante. El rio está compuesto por tres cascadas a las cuales se puede acceder caminando cada una muy distinta a la otra.
The next day the first thing we did was to have coffee and after breakfast we immediately went to visit the El Diamante waterfall. The river is composed of three waterfalls which can be accessed by walking each one very different from the other.
Esta es de las partes más bonitas del camping, poder estar allí metida en el lugar y disfrutar de cada pozo y cascada del lugar. Y otra de las cosas que siempre se disfruta es reunirse a cocinar en la noche con un cielo lleno de estrellas y con muchas historias por contar (los cuentos paranormales no pueden faltar).
This is one of the most beautiful parts of the campsite, to be able to be there tucked into the place and enjoy every well and waterfall of the place. And another thing that is always enjoyable is to gather to cook at night with a sky full of stars and with many stories to tell (paranormal stories can not miss).
Otra cosa que no fue tan bonita de la experiencia completa de este camping es que nos llenamos de garrapatas por todos lados. De pronto estábamos mi amiga y yo dentro de la carpa como monos sacándonos las garrapatas la una a la otra. Revisando porque son puntitos negros tan chiquitos que casi ni se notan, pero claro, esto nos pasa porque probablemente en la zona donde acampamos caminan las vacas o quizás las trajimos del camino.
Another thing that was not so nice about the whole camping experience was that we got ticks everywhere. Suddenly my friend and I were inside the tent like monkeys picking ticks off each other. Checking because they are such tiny black dots that you can hardly notice them, but of course, this happens to us because probably in the area where we camped the cows walk or maybe we brought them from the road.
Esta última noche llovió. Nos despertamos temprano a recoger las carpas mientras luchábamos con el barro, pero al mismo tiempo, pudimos sacar ventaja de tener un día bastante nublado. El cielo gris nos acompañó en el regreso haciendo un poquito más fácil el camino.
This last night it rained. We woke up early to pick up the tents while struggling with the mud, but at the same time, we were able to take advantage of a fairly cloudy day. The gray skies accompanied us on the return trip, making it a little easier on the way back.
Y así fue como el viaje llego a su fin. Estos viajes a la naturaleza me terminan dejando super agotada a nivel físico que lo único que quiero es ir a mi casa, tomar un buen baño y dormir. Pero no lo cambio por nada porque a nivel emocional me siento estupendamente bien. Dirían mis amigas viajeras "es una recarga de energías" y si, el solo estar allí sin conexión a internet, rodeada de árboles inmensos y de la compañía perfecta para no parar de reír en toda la ruta es gratificante.
Por eso insisto, si tienes la oportunidad de escaparte con tus amigos de campamento, aprovéchala, por lo menos una vez, date la oportunidad de sufrir, pero en el monte o en la playa, también es buena opción ser arrullado por las olas del mar.

And that's how the trip came to an end. These trips to nature end up leaving me so physically exhausted that all I want to do is go home, take a nice bath and sleep. But I wouldn't trade it for anything because on an emotional level I feel great. My traveler friends would say “it's a recharge of energy” and yes, just being there without internet connection, surrounded by huge trees and the perfect company to not stop laughing throughout the route is rewarding.
So I insist, if you have the opportunity to get away with your friends camping, take advantage of it, at least once, give yourself the opportunity to suffer, but in the bush or on the beach, it is also a good option to be lulled by the waves of the sea.

Que bueno que nos traigas tu experiencia sobre acampar, es cierto que desde afuera puede verse todo lindo pero hay muchas cosas para tener en cuenta.
