Jedne z moich ulubionych jesiennych zdjęć, które zostały wykonane w lasach Kahlenbergu - wzgórza wznoszącego się nad Klosterneuburgiem nieopodal Wiednia.

Samo wzgórze ma ogromne znaczenie historyczne również dla Polski. król Jan III Sobieski poprowadził tutaj 12 września 1683 roku słynną odsiecz wiedeńską. Wojska prowadzone przez niego rozgromiły armię Osmańską i mówi się, że nie tylko uratowały Wiedeń, ale również całą zachodnią Europę przed podbojem ze strony tureckiej.

Dla Polaków, zwłaszcza tych, którzy mieszkają w Austrii wzgórze to jest symbolem polskiego bohaterstwa i rycerstwa.

Na szczycie wzgórza znajduje się kościół św. Józefa, w którym przed bitwą Sobieski wysłuchał mszy świętej odprawionej przez kapelana. W kościele znajduje się polska kaplica z pamiątkami związanymi z bitwą. Sam kościół aktualnie przechodzi remont.

Kościół tytułowany jest jako Polskie Sanktuarium Narodowe, a od 1906 roku piecze nad nim sprawuje polskie Zgromadzenie Zmartwychwstańców.

Na szczyt wzgórza można dotrzeć samochodem. Znajduje się tu parking. Roztacza się z niego piękny widok na cały Wiedeń i okolice. Wzgórze jest także świetnym terenem rekreacyjnym dzięki licznym ścieżką spacerowym, którymi można także dojść na szczyt np z Klosterneuburga.

Memory of autumn and some historical facts

Some of my favorite autumn photos that were taken in the forests of Kahlenberg - a hill rising above Klosterneuburg near Vienna.

The hill itself is of great historical importance. also for Poland. King Jan III Sobieski led the famous Viennese aid here on September 12, 1683. The troops led by him defeated the Ottoman army and are said to have not only saved Vienna, but also all of Western Europe from conquest by the Turkish side.

For Poles, especially those who live in Austria, this hill is a symbol of Polish heroism and chivalry.

At the top of the hill is the church of St. Joseph, in which before the battle Sobieski listened to the mass celebrated by the chaplain. In the church there is a Polish chapel with memorabilia related to the battle. The church itself is currently undergoing renovation.

The church is titled as the Polish National Sanctuary, and since 1906 it has been supervised by the Polish Resurrection Congregation.

The top of the hill can be reached by car. There is a parking lot here. It offers a beautiful view of the whole of Vienna and the surrounding area. The hill is also a great recreational area thanks to numerous walking paths, which you can also walk to the top, for example from Klosterneuburg.
