1 · Wyglądały jakby rozmawiały.
They looked like they were talking..
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Jedno z ostatnich zdjęć tych łabędzi z tamtego poranka. Coś w ich ułożeniu sprawiało nieodparte wrażenie rozmowy. Mimo że żadne z nich nie raczyło odezwać się choćby słowem. Patrząc jednak na to zdjęcie, mam wrażenie, jakby ptak bardziej z prawej zadawał jakieś ważne pytanie temu drugiemu, który najwyraźniej był zbyt pochłonięty własnymi przemyśleniami, żeby w ogóle zauważyć, że ktoś się do niego odzywa. Czy to ma sens? Pewnie nie. Ale zdjęcie ma. Przynajmniej dla mnie ;)
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · One of the last photos of these swans from that morning. Something about their position gave the distinct impression of a conversation, even though neither of them deigned to say a word. Looking at this photo, however, I get the impression that the bird on the far right was asking some important question to the other, who was clearly too absorbed in his own thoughts to even notice anyone was speaking to him. Does that make sense? Probably not. But the photo does. At least to me ;)

2 · Jezioro z Beskidem Małym w tle.
The lake with the Beskid Mały mountains in the background.
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · W tym fragmencie krajobrazu udało mi się wyłapać kilka prostych i przekątnych, naturalnie uformowanych przez linie gór i jeziora. Choć "naturalnie" nie jest tu może słowem do końca miarodajnym. Jezioro Żywieckie to zbiornik sztucznie utworzony na rzece Sole. Natura tego miejsca została więc częściowo ukształtowana przez działalność człowieka.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · In this slice of landscape I managed to catch a few straight and diagonal lines, naturally formed by the contours of the mountains and the lake. Though "naturally" may not be entirely the right word here. Żywiec Lake is an artificial reservoir, created on the Soła river. The nature of this place has therefore been shaped, in part, by human hands.

3 · Pędy trzciny jako świetny pierwszy plan.

▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Sporo musiałem się nakombinować z tą trzciną na wielu zdjęciach. W mojej wyobraźni istniało mnóstwo pomysłów na to, jak powinna wyglądać w kadrze, ale rzeczywistość miała na ten temat zupełnie inne zdanie. Kilka razy udało mi się jednak "złapać" ją w sposób przynajmniej satysfakcjonujący. To właśnie jedno z takich zdjęć.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · I had to do quite a bit of wrestling with these reeds across many shots. In my imagination there were countless ideas for how they should look in the frame, but reality had entirely different opinions on the matter. A few times, though, I managed to "catch" them in a way that was at least satisfying. This is one of those shots.

4 · Natura w filmowym kadrze.
Nature in a cinematic frame.
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Pierwsze zdjęcie w tej serii, które zdecydowałem się pokazać w proporcjach bardziej filmowych niż fotograficznych. Kierowałem się już powoli w stronę ścieżki, którą dotarłem na miejsce z parkingu, święcie przekonany, że to koniec pleneru. Jak się jednak okaże w kolejnej kartce, jezioro miało wobec mnie inne plany i nie chciało mnie jeszcze puścić do domu.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · The first frame in this series I decided to present in proportions more cinematic than photographic. I was already slowly making my way towards the path I'd taken from the car park, firmly convinced this was the end of the shooting. As the next page will reveal, however, the lake had other plans for me and wasn't quite ready to let me go home yet.

5 · Gdzieś w połowie jeziora zauważyłem zbliżającą się łódkę z mężczyzną na pokładzie.
Somewhere in the middle of the lake I noticed a boat approaching, a man on board.
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Zbliżał się powoli, zwrócony plecami w moją stronę, spokojnymi ruchami wioseł nadając pęd swojej łódce. Zacząłem więc co chwilę kierować w jego stronę aparat. Przecież to oczywiste, że jeśli ktoś wypływa na środek jeziora o poranku, to wyłącznie po to, by trafić na obiektyw przypadkowego wariata z bezlusterkowcem, przyczajonego w trawie na brzegu.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · He was approaching slowly, his back turned to me, propelling his boat along with calm, measured strokes of the oars. So I began pointing the camera his way every so often. Because it's obvious, isn't it, that if someone rows out to the middle of a lake at the morning, it's purely to end up in the lens of some random lunatic with a mirrorless, lurking in the grass on the shore.

6 · Facet na jeziorze w filmowym kadrze.

▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Ten kadr również spasował mi w bardziej panoramicznym, filmowym formacie. Mam wrażenie, że czerń i biel nadała mu nieco nostalgicznego wyrazu, rodem z czasów, kiedy światowym kinem rządził jeszcze monochromatyzm. To zdjęcie było też swego rodzaju przełomem. Wtedy właśnie mnie zauważył i musiałem zacząć się pilnować. Od tego momentu obserwował mnie tak, jakby chciał się upewnić, że przypadkiem go nie fotografuję, co akurat robiłem co chwilę. Zawsze mam zresztą wrażenie, że kiedy fotografuję w terenie, przypadkowo napotkane osoby na widok aparatu patrzą na mnie jak na kogoś, kto najwyraźniej nie ma pomysłu na spędzenie wolnego czasu i uwiecznia byle co, nie wiadomo po co. Albo po prostu chcą mieć pewność, że to nie one same są tematem moich zdjęć. Ciężko wyczuć.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · This shot also worked for me in a more panoramic, cinematic format. I feel like the black and white gave it a slightly nostalgic feel, straight from the days when monochrome still ruled world cinema. This photo was also a breakthrough of sorts. That's when he noticed me, and I had to start being careful. From that moment on, he watched me as if to make sure I wasn't accidentally photographing him, which I happened to be doing every now and then. I always have the impression that when I'm photographing outdoors, people I meet look at me when they see my camera as if I'm out of ideas for how to spend my free time and are just capturing random things for no apparent reason. Or maybe they just want to make sure they're not the subject of my photos. It's hard to sense

7 · Wioślarz i wieża katedry.
The rower and the cathedral tower.
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · Wieża katedry w Żywcu jest z tej części jeziora całkiem dobrze widoczna, choć w żaden sposób nie dominuje w krajobrazie. Jest na to zwyczajnie zbyt daleko. Mimo to miałem ją na uwadze od początku pobytu. Problem w tym, że przez dłuższy czas nie potrafiłem wymyślić ani jednego ciekawego zdjęcia z jej udziałem. Dopiero pojawienie się wioślarza na jeziorze łaskawie podsunęło mi sensowny pomysł. Żałuję jedynie, że nie ustawiłem się inaczej i nie pokusiłem o większe zbliżenie, żeby nie pozostała na tym zdjęciu zaledwie małym punktem gdzieś z boku.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · The tower of Żywiec Cathedral is quite clearly visible from this part of the lake, though it dominates the landscape in no way whatsoever. It's simply too far away for that. Even so, I'd had it in mind from the very start of my visit. The trouble being that for a good while I couldn't come up with a single interesting shot involving it. It took the rower appearing on the lake to graciously hand me a sensible idea. My only regret is that I didn't position myself differently and go for a tighter framing, so that it wouldn't remain just a small dot somewhere off to the side of this photo.

8 · Po prostu minimalizm.
Simply minimalism.
▸ O FOTOGRAFII · To zdjęcie to typowy przykład tematu, którego po prostu nie potrafię ominąć, kiedy tylko nadarza się okazja, by go uwiecznić. Wszelkie pływające pojazdy uwielbiam "strzelać" i nic na to nie poradzę. Ta łódka wraz z odbiciem w tafli wody celowo ląduje zarówno na początku, jak i na końcu galerii. To najprostsze, a zarazem ulubione moje zdjęcie ze wszystkich dziś prezentowanych. Mimo że przepadam za szerokimi scenami, w których dużo się dzieje, to właśnie takie proste, mało skomplikowane kadry mają równie ważne miejsce w arsenale motywów, po które sięgam na swojej hobbystycznej, fotograficznej drodze. Chętnie poczytam o podobnie cenionych tematach u innych fotografów ekosystemu Hive, więc jeśli ktoś ma ochotę, zapraszam do podzielenia się swoimi w komentarzach.
▸ ABOUT PHOTO · This shot is a textbook example of a subject I simply cannot pass up whenever the chance to capture it comes along. Anything that floats, I love to "shoot", and there's nothing I can do about it. This boat, together with its reflection in the surface of the water, deliberately appears both at the beginning and at the end of the gallery. It's the simplest, and at the same time my favourite, of all the photos presented today. Although I'm rather fond of wide scenes with plenty going on, it's precisely these simple, uncomplicated frames that hold an equally important place in the arsenal of motifs I reach for on my amateur photographic journey. I'd gladly read about similarly treasured subjects from the other photographers of the Hive ecosystem, so if anyone feels like it, do share yours in the comments.
