"Discovering the Flavors of the Season A World of Fruits and Vegetables:Exploring the Market"
Assalamualaikum all #hivers and how are you? I hope everyone is well and I am also well. Last Sunday evening I agreed to go to my vegetable market which is located in Singhpura area of Lahore. I have often heard that vegetables and fruits become cheaper in the evening. Because the shopkeepers in the market buy new fruits and vegetables in the morning so that the leftover fruits and vegetables can be sold at a lower price instead of rotting, and they can buy fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmers and sell them in the market in the morning.
When I left home on Sunday evening for some work, I went to the vegetable market on my way back. As it was evening time and it was getting dark, the rush was not so much. But many people were still busy buying vegetables and fruits. I also had to buy some vegetables and fruits.
So, first of all, I checked the stalls in the market and saw which vegetable was available at which stall at a good and reasonable price. First of all, I asked the price of onion and found out that the first onion was 80 rupees per kg, while the onion, which was of a lighter quality, was selling at 70 rupees per kg.
My rule has always been that if the item is a little expensive but the quality is good, then buy something that is of poor quality and the price is a little lower. I bought 5 kg of onions, which were good in quality. I bought onions for 80 rupees per kg.After that, I bought potatoes that were 50 rupees per kg, which were available for 100 rupees per kg a month ago.I bought
potatoes two days ago from a vegetable shop,80 rupees per kg.
Similarly, I bought two kilos of tomatoes for only 100 rupees, which the stall owner was telling that he had sold the same tomatoes for 60 rupees per kilo during the day. I also bought one kilo of peas for only 60 rupees, which was selling for 80 rupees per kilo outside the market.
I checked the prices of various vegetables and found that cabbage is Rs 20 kg, ginger Rs 450 kg, garlic Rs 500 kg, carrot Rs 30 kg, lemon Rs 300-400 kg,bringle 50Rs per kg and spinach 30Rs per Kg
Similarly, I also bought some other vegetables which were available in good quality and at a reasonable price. After that, I checked the rates of all the vegetables and noted that The price has now dropped by 30 to 50% compared to last month. One reason for this was the clear gap in supply and demand and the other reason was the increase in production. I saw in the market that farmers from far and wide were bringing their vegetables to the market on trucks so that they could bid in the morning and earn a good profit from their vegetable production.
I saw that some vegetables were actually being sold at cheaper prices in the evening. I wandered around for about an hour. After that I visited the fruit market and bought oranges. There were different varieties of oranges available. But this year the price of oranges was slightly higher than last year. Most of the fruit stalls were of oranges because it was the end of the orange season. High quality oranges were selling at Rs 150 per kg. Also bought 2 kg of oranges for 300 rupees. After that I saw that apples were selling for 250 rupees per kg. Similarly, pomegranates were selling for 400 rupees per kg, while strawberries, whose season has not yet started, were selling for 600 rupees per kg. But when the season starts, its price is very low because it is a perishable fruit. I remember very well last time its price was 80 to 100 rupees per kg. The fall was reduced, more bananas were selling at Rs 100 per dozen and guavas were selling at Rs 120 per kg.
Thus, I spent some time in the vegetable and fruit market, took pictures of the vegitable and fruit stalls at the end i concluded that if there is a vegetable and fruit market near your home or at a some distance, then you must visit once it during the week where you can get vegetables and fruits at a reasonable price and of better quality. In this way, you can buy vegetables and store them for a week in the refrigerator and then go to the next weekend and buy them again. I hope you like this. Thanks
