Best regards.
Dear friends, I am pleased to be able to share with you some of my black and white photographic productions, but I am also pleased to tell you the anecdotes that gave rise to each photograph, as I always say behind each photo there is always a story or anecdote to tell and that is part of the magic of the art of photography, immortalize a moment, a gesture, an expression.

Well let's start, some time ago while I was on my way home after a vacation at the beach, we stopped at the side of the road on the central western highway located in the town of Chivacoa, Yaracuy State, this highway communicates the Yaracuy State and Lara State where I live. Pinmapple location

Right in front of where we parked there was a large statue which attracted the gaze of everyone who passed by. Obviously I knew who that woman was who was posing on top of that animal called "Danta". It was the Goddess Maria Lionza.¿But who is this semi-naked athletic-bodied woman posing on top of that strange animal with the body of a pony and an elephant-like trunk?
Well, here comes the murky part of the matter. Maria Lionza is a myth that is part of the idiosyncrasy and folklore of my country Venezuela. Her myth has gained so much strength in Venezuela and much of Latin America that her legend has been syncretized with Afro-American and Catholic cults, which have formed a taboo religion in my country, as some believers of Christianity label this cult as witchcraft or paganism.
The fact is that its history is somewhat interesting and so old that not even the country's chroniclers have been able to establish a real date of the birth of this goddess or the myth as such, since it is believed that it began with the first Spanish settlements during the conquest.
It is said that this indigenous goddess was born in the mountains of the state of Yaracuy at birth her eyes were green, her father who was the cacique of the tribe knew that this was a bad omen and that according to the indigenous law the girl had to be sacrificed. His love for his newborn daughter was so great that he decided to lock her in the deepest part of the mountain so that no one could hurt her.
The girl, when she reached puberty and with it her first menstruation, felt the need to wash herself on the banks of the Yaracuy River, but when she got there she could see for the first time through the water her face, which was very beautiful at that moment a great python snake fell in love with her and wanted to kidnap her. Just at that moment the spirits of the mountain interceded for the young woman, curse the snake and the reptile dies product of the curse of the spirits, but that beautiful young woman was blessed, named queen of the mountain, of the waters, rivers and all nature.
The powers granted to this goddess were so broad that they were very similar to those of Gaia and Artemis in Greek mythology, or even to Venus, since they attributed to her powers over nature, crops, love and passion, and even divine powers of healing the sick.
It should be noted that while I was at that monument on the side of the road I felt a little strange, perhaps because of the presumption of feeling singled out by someone, because as I reiterate it is a taboo subject here in Venezuela, what I must accept is that the story behind this myth is really fantastic. Taboo or folklore, this is part of our culture, as well as of our deepest roots.
