The fact is that around the inscriptions speaks of the old name of the city. The real name is visible only at the train station and at the airport.
In my city, the next seven streets are returning to their former names. The renaming of Kirov to the old name of Vyatka has been argued for 20 years.
It seems to me that it is quite possible that after some time there will be an initiative group for renaming Kaliningrad to its former name.

I like the idea of naming a city after an original word given to the region and river over naming it after some politician or Bolshevik revolutionary. Vote for change!
As for Konigsberg, it's a German name, they could compromise and call it Konigsgrad.
