Do you know the singer Andrey Makarevich? On May 27, 1969, he and Sergey Kawagoe founded the Time Machine rock band. At a time when songs about a happy life under Soviet rule were mostly sung on stage in the USSR, the songs of this group did not fit into this general chorus and therefore the youth loved this group. Many songs in the mid-80s became the anthem of freedom, and in those years I became acquainted with the song "Starling".

The song "Starling" ("Stupid Starling") was recorded in the All-Union Recording Studio "Melody" in 1983. It was published in the albums "Parade of Ensembles 2" and "In a good Hour" with the text edited at the request of the censorship authorities. It was interpreted by critics in a broad sense as an allegorical song about a man who opposed the prevailing laws of existence. Journalists attributed it to one of the main hits of the "Time Machine" of the mid-1980s.

I'm the same age as the band "Time Machine" in the full sense of the word, I'm only 2 months younger than the band. My whole adult life goes along with the songs of this band. The song about the stupid starling stuck in my head right after the first listen. An interesting point is that someone gave me a small gramophone record of this song, recorded at a stall at a farmer's market.

In those early days, all songs were mostly distributed by re-recording them on tape recorders. Those were the days of my youth. And these are the songs of my youth. We've been making our own playlist all our lives. My parents' songs are in my head, which I heard back in my pants-free childhood. But many modern songs are poorly absorbed by me. Is it old age? I think not yet. 😂

And one more thing - the starling is a symbol of spring for me, its morning songs work like a bugle. Like a parrot, he can mimic everything he hears.
But there is one problem - I don't see these birds in our village. There are birdhouses, but no starlings. Why? I don't know.
