March 12th. Now I can say with confidence that spring has really come to my doorstep. To be precise, this little bird with a red spot on its head brought spring. After several years of bird watching at my bird feeder, I realized that Redpoll is outside my window with the arrival of the first spring warmth.
Why is this happening? Most likely, with the arrival of winter cold, these birds move to the south of our region or fly to a neighboring warmer region. But when winter ends and the sun begins to warm the air during the day, the birds return to their native lands.

These birds usually never take food from a bird feeder but pick up crumbs in the snow that were there after larger birds with stronger beaks had already cleaned the seeds.
This year I bought sunflower seeds smaller than in previous years, so I almost don't see the jays that flew in every day at the beginning of winter. They like large seeds and they quickly empty the feeders. I didn't like it. Now I have some guilt that I became greedy and offended the Jays. To make amends, I decided to buy large seeds and mix them with small ones.

By the way, I think it's a girl. Boys, in addition to the red feathers on their heads, have red plumage on their chests.
I took this photo at about 9 a.m. In the late afternoon, I looked at the weather forecast and saw that tomorrow they promised positive temperatures. The bird did not deceive me this time either.
