Traditional Antiques, Mussels from the Harbor and Photography Exhibitions in Brittany

avatar

The weather continues to be fine... I'm joking, it's grey, a kind of grey that you don't see elsewhere but which suits me perfectly, even if for some people it could give a sinister atmosphere to certain places. Like this little stretch of the port of Locquémeau, for example.

As soon as there's a bit more sunshine, I'll show you the difference...

IMG_8479.JPG

IMG_8477.JPG

For me, it's a Conan Doyle atmosphere, which suits me perfectly, as I must have a bit of Scottish blood somewhere, much more so than southern ancestry. Even if in the end it's rather the opposite ^^...

But let's take a look at what was going on behind my back at the same time !

IMG_8482.JPG

IMG_8452.JPG

A whole crowd of mackintoshes ranging from black to more fluorescent colors were gathered there, waiting calmly despite the wind and rain. In truth, we were part of that queue too.

Every Wednesday, mussels are sold in the harbor, and I can tell you they're just delicious ! At one point, however, I decided to go and see the little exhibition next door.

IMG_8471.JPG

Here's the view from outside the little gallery, just to give you an idea of the glorious weather...

IMG_8469.JPG

IMG_8468.JPG

IMG_8474.JPG

The exhibition and the works were nice, with prints of seaweed and traces on the sand... If you're interested, I could find the name of the photographer for you.

IMG_8498.JPG

Once we've got our 2.6 kilograms of mussels, we head off to the little antique shop not far from there, right on the harbor. It's a veritable Ali Baba's cave run by a couple who've been there for several decades, and you can really find everything here, even if it's mainly objects from Brittany !

IMG_8484 copy.jpg

IMG_8494.JPG

Glassware and a model trawler on display...

IMG_8492.JPG

IMG_8488.JPG

Chandeliers, knick-knacks, more model ships, teapots, mirrors, books and so much more ! The space is completely saturated and optimized :)

IMG_8486.JPG

IMG_8487.JPG

IMG_8491.JPG

Here are a few other objects in particular, a child's portrait (badly) painted as in the Renaissance, a maritime scene and finally, a large mirror with a frame all decorated with shells.

IMG_8592.JPG

IMG_8588.JPG

But let's move on to another antique and second-hand shop. It's this little shop in the small town of Lannion where I always end up finding the same things...

IMG_8594.JPG

Every year I find one or more pair of Levi's jeans, and they're always in very good condition and in my size. It's become a habit and even a joke with the different salespeople who recognize me !

IMG_8555.JPG

IMG_8576.JPG

But back to our mussels from the beginning and here's a bit of the clean-up before cooking with shallots, white wine, chives and that's about it !

I hope you've enjoyed this article for #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle, whom I thank for this excellent initiative. By the way, no flowers this time, but I'll make up for it with some gorgeous hydrangeas that I've still got to take photos of during my stay...

Thank you for your time, take care and see you soon,

<3

Hello, @anttn
Those activities are nice perfect market friday. Even so crowded I think.

The jeans looks still okay. No problem. Here we have second (not new stuff) market. With cheap price than new one, then it would be great

Greetings

That weather is just perfect!!! :D
I mean it seriously, as there were some extremely hot days so a bit of rain would come good! Antique shop - always interesting to find those. Levi's jeans, wow, cool to be able to find some really good, second-hand ones, and every year? You are lucky in finding them ;)

Mussels - love them!!! For two reasons. As I like how they taste and also because mussels bring memories from my childhood when we were going to the sea and my father and friends from that little Adriatic village were diving and bringing mussels. I guess it can't be done anymore. {it was many years ago hehehe}

I completely agree, here it's raining almost everyday and as I could almost understand that for some people it might be a problem, I really enjoy it on my side :)

This second-handed shop is always garnish with exceptional or simple treasures and so it's good year marker hehe, almost like a birthday !

Mmh, that's sweet memories indeed, I guess that if you're discrete, it must be still possible, no ?

Have a lovely Sunday dear @mipiano 😊

I didn't visit that village for 30 years now, so that is why I think things also changed there. Here, in this part of Spain mussels are farmed. Maybe they can be still found in the north of the country in a natural way. I hope :)

I wish you too a wonderful Sunday, @anttn 😇

Mh, sure in 30 years, it must have changed !

I hope too, this you used to do is actually still a living habits for some people there 🤞

Many thanks dear @mipiano, it was a good one, just took an amazing sunburn lol, well it was the first of the summer and year 😂
I hope you had a nice weekend also !

Oops, a sunburn. Aloe Vera could help with it if it is giving trouble.

We are trying to be in the sun just in the morning, and later in the evening. I think we will spend the day out tomorrow, maybe I will take sunscreen with us, although I don't really use it.

Yes, haha ! I already bought some but I needed time to remember that it was the good medication ^^

Almost ten years I didn't had one, I have a light skin and my mojo regarding the sun : never more than 10/15 minutes in plain light 😂

That also because I don't really like sunscreens too !

This place is beautiful, as well as everything they exhibit there, but beyond what it offers, it is an experience to live it through your words and these photographs that show the best. I loved everything here, congratulations, you are an excellent blogger and hiver.

Levis!! I love them second-hand! They are already broken in. :) Usually, it is because people buy them that they fit like a glove and then, they throw them in the dryer! Oops! Donate them, you will never get that skinny!

What a great shop.

Mussels! I still get my own. Well, we get them. :) I will not eat farmed mussels, I cannot make myself. They are sweet and delicious... we usually do clamming and dig for mussels in the same excursion. I just want to dive into your bucket!

Starting immediately, #MarketFriday will be paused for a period of time. I want to thank you for your support along the way and I look forward to seeing you back when I resume the posting concept.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

#MarketFriday loves you!

Haha, in fact the ones I usually buy are vintage ones and most havent't been wear :) I find the quality way better that nowadays !

I will be honest, I never ate some wild mussels !! Sorry haha ! But I would definitely like to try that, what are the requirement for them to be good ? I believed they have to be under the sea for a minimum time, but in fact I need to make my research !

I read about the #MarketFriday pausing and I hope it's more about the time it's take to you ! Anyway, I want to thank you again for this initiative and I do also hope that you're doing well, take care dear @dswigle 😘

We’ve been to this place during pandemic so there were no people. Would love to buy some seafoods here if it was open.
