Quiet Wednesday Walk Up and Down Montmartre... Then Up again !
Today was the first day of good weather since I returned to Paris. It was beginning to weigh on my morale... No, I'm joking, since I've decided to accept that what happens must have its reasons. It's not a matter of fate or destiny, but rather an inner and personal impulse that dictates that I find interest in everything, even and especially those that I might reject.
Because if I wait for the perfect day to hope to have a good day, who's to say that it won't be the day that an avalanche of trouble and problems will befall me ? I know, it's a bit of a caricature, but it was with these thoughts - and others - that I left the house to go for a walk and enjoy the sunshine, walking through the streets I now know like the back of my hand.
As usual, I pass by the St Vincent cemetery and come across the monument to Théophile Steinlen, a Swiss artist who settled on the hill in the 19th century. He notably created the poster for the Chat Noir which you may have in mind or which you will have no difficulty in finding again...
A little further up, after the Avenue Junot, lined with majestic linden trees, you come to the "Allée des Brouillards", almost a title from a French film from the 1950s, in any case, authentically Parisian.
Here you will find magnificent residences, set back from the street and the busier areas, almost all with a garden, and you will start to dream... Yes, but not for too long !
St Denis, patron saint of Paris and martyred by the Romans for his faith, continues to hold his head, the miracle being that he, just after his beheading, got up, took his head in his arms and walked the distance where he wanted to be buried. This is cephalophoria. The act of carrying his head. You learn something new every day, don't you ?
I take St Vincent Street, one of my favorites because it climbs quietly up the hill. But by roundabout ways, without pictures and therefore undocumented...
I find myself at the bottom of the hill... Not that I decided to, I had some shopping to do in the marché St Pierre's area, where you find all those fabric sellers.
But seeing the sun beating down on the basilica, I decide to get up there as quickly as possible to make the most of it. I take things as they come, but that doesn't stop me from wanting sunshine rather than cold shade !
One more door in the collection of the doors of Paris...
These stairs, which start at the intersection of the streets Muller, Feutrier and Paul Albert, are the steepest on the hill, but they are also the quickest way to the top. It all depends on what you want after all...
Arrival at the Maharajah's palace, the Taj Mahal of Paris, the Mecca of tourists from the four cardinal points... However, there are fewer of them on pilgrimage, probably because of the winter and the cold that is sweeping the capital.
For my part, I have always preferred the view to the building itself, it is not my favorite architectural period. And I am doing well, because I manage to capture the flight of this raven, quite by chance of course.
A little further on, still on the same level, but to the west, you can see the Eiffel Tower in the late afternoon fog, another great attraction of the capital.
Just opposite this viewpoint is a Wallace fountain, one of the many water features supported by four caryatids...
But it's already time to get back to the house and a thousand other little things. I didn't lie to you when I said it would be quiet !
I hope that you will have enjoyed this modest tour with winter colors and atmosphere with me :)
Wishing you a good evening, see you soon,
<3
<3

I didn't know the history of St. Denis, the photo of the statue struck me and reading your post I understood why the statue is made like this. Great post! The Thaj Mahal of Paris is amazing, never heard before.
Thanks you ! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and stories, the Thaj Mahal is in fact the Montmartre basilica, but it's white and surrounded by tourists so... :D
Take care 🌿
What a beautiful basilica, thanks for clarification and for sharing
you’re welcome 😉
So beautiful part of Paris (well, according to what I see from your Wednesday walk posts :)) )
I would definitely go out and stroll there, even if I would have a ton of things to do. This is gorgeous and soul-feeding 😇🌞
Yes, it's really beautiful and quiet, well, super touristy too...!
By the way, your comment inspired me to do a walk on only one street or passage... it has to be long and devilishly interesting haha :D
How are you doing these days ? I hope for the best 🤞 and I wish you a great weekend ☀️
