Icy Golden Morning Walk in Normandy

avatar
(Edited)

Hello dear friends and Hivers, I hope this week has got off to a good start for you! As promised, I'm sharing with you the fuller complement of this morning stroll, but after that, I promise : I'll stop for a while with the frozen wonders and other frosty delights !

I may come back to this later in the winter, but to tell you the truth, winter is a season that I adore, and the first reason for that is quite simply the cold! I'm not a man for the heat, and even though I love the sun, extreme heat somehow prevents me from functioning properly... But the cold sharpens our senses, makes us sharper, and if you want to fight it, it's not very complicated: you just have to add layers of insulating clothing !

Whereas when it's hot, it's hard to take anything off... ^^ !

DSC_2854.JPG

The sun is already in the sky, and in such a way that I can play with it for a few moments behind the wisteria vine.

DSC_2862.JPG

The car is completely frozen too, but it doesn't matter, it's not a tour with it that I want to do, but a walk along the paths, a bit at random along the road.

DSC_2878.JPG

DSC_2870.JPG

The path I take first takes me past the houses and huts of our neighbours. The whole atmosphere is frozen, with the odd bird darting through the air and breaking into a joyful, hesitant song.

DSC_2883.JPG

DSC_2873.JPG

Further down the valley, where the water collects by gravity, there are a number of ponds of varying sizes. And these are obviously great places from which to see an ever-changing spectacle of mirrors.

DSC_2888.JPG

DSC_2898.JPG

A little further along the path... There are ten meters between the two photos above, each taken with my Nikon camera and a 35mm lens. I think it's quite clear that we're emerging from a small valley into more open plains and pastures...

In any case, the direct light confirms this to our advantage !

DSC_2911.JPG

DSC_2904.JPG

I always take the time to look back because it's always interesting to see how far I've come, but also simply to see that same path from another point of view...

Always with the idea of looking at things from different angles and thus having a more complete - but still missing - perception of reality and the environment in which I live.

DSC_2914.JPG

DSC_2943.JPG

DSC_2930.JPG

Here we are on the last pond in this valley and those who have been paying attention will realise that this is where I took so many of the images I presented in the previous article. The light is just magnificent here and now !

DSC_2981.JPG

A few minutes later, from a slightly different angle, things change and the spell is broken...

DSC_2983.JPG

DSC_2987.JPG

DSC_2992.JPG

Here we are on a new road, where two small hamlets begin and join, so inevitably we find a cross and more houses... It's a bit like the hub of the area ^^ !

DSC_3006.JPG

DSC_3010.JPG

On the right a little further on, I come across this wide frozen meadow where two horses seem to be waiting for me, but are almost surprised to see a biped at this hour !

DSC_3004.JPG

DSC_3027.JPG

The field on my left is even sunnier, and we come to another crossroads.

DSC_3030.JPG

A superb bramble bush that, if you look carefully, can be seen in almost every colour of the rainbow !

DSC_0044.JPG

DSC_0045.JPG

I take the long side of the field and speaking of rainbows, I can actually play with the sun in this apple tree. From this vantage point, I can also enjoy a wider view of the hamlet that stretches along the narrow road...

DSC_0049.JPG

DSC_0054.JPG

DSC_0060.JPG

But here's the one I'm taking, which is fortunately in full sunshine. I was getting a bit cold from stopping and taking pictures, so I took the opportunity to warm up a bit. It must be between -4 and -6°.

DSC_0142.JPG

Through a gap in the dense hedge, I can see a pretty farmhouse typical of the region, 3 or 4 buildings of different sizes grouped together, each protecting the others...

DSC_0162.JPG

An opening onto a field, its mist and its forest horizon... It's ours !

DSC_0166.JPG

DSC_0173.JPG

Magnificent sight of the mist against the golden silhouettes of the trees !

DSC_0178.JPG

DSC_0188.JPG

Little by little, paying close attention to everything, I make my way back down into the valley until I reach the edge of our little orchard, and that's where our walk ends ! I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for your visit :)

Take care and see you soon,

<3

<3

Congrats on some lovely pictures, and just so you know, I am also a man for winters. But, in Africa with its renowned blazing sun, I just have to move between the shadows of trees when I am out in nature. In my younger days the sun never bothered me, but now, in the winter years of my own life, my skin is not happy with the sun anymore.
Such is life !LOL

Many thanks @papilloncharity :)

I get the thing ! Even if, from what you're saying, I seem to be the youngest, I can see what you're talking about! I have red hair and the sun has often played tricks on me ^^ So I know that type of shadow moves hehe !

It's not about the age my friend, as it has always been about the heart. Maybe some hidden Celtic genes in your blood with the red hair and I think that it's great to be different.
Red hair is great and yeah, the sun also loves it, so you know all about keeping in the shade. !LOL

Mmmh, I see !

Yeah, that could be that, or even older, I recently learnt that the red hair genes come from Neanderthal :) This plus Celtic ones, I'm loaded haha ^^

I wish you a Merry Christmas dear @papilloncharity ✌️

Just don't lick an iced pole, bahahaha...

Winter is soooo picturesque. I mean, I'm a sucker for any season as long as it's out in nature, so I don't know what I'm talking about, but there's something about how light is refracted through ice and cold air that is very, very beautiful.

Just don't lick an iced pole, bahahaha...

Haha, I've already done that when skiing... It's a really clever idea 😂 !

Yes, there's something completely purer and more mysterious in both the air and the light, summer is rounder and fuller, which is good and pleasant too, but the little discomfort of the cold makes it possible to appreciate so much the gentle warmth of the wood-burning stove... and another detail that I appreciate as a gourmet is that I can eat a little richer as the calories are also gone more quickly ^^ !
