Icy Exploration in the Queyras Alps

avatar

Let's pick up where we left off... We quickly passed through the village of St Véran, one of the highest villages in Europe, perched at an altitude of over 2000 meters in the Southern French Alps.

This time, we'll have to wait a little longer to take a more complete tour of the village, as what I'd like to share today is more about the walk that took us back to the resort hotel a little further down...

IMG_5170.JPG

In all, just over two hours of walking in the snow, even if, as you can see, the south-facing face is almost completely free of snow... The effects of climate change, no doubt !

If there are three elements that we always find on our walks in this region of Queyras, they are the typical wooden crosses with symbols representing the local trades and the cockerel, which is the emblem of the valley; maps with more or less useful and tourist information; and last but not least, the little miniature chapels that line the roads that we usually take on foot.

Here's a small view of St Véran and a new map, but you'll have to wait a little longer to see more !

IMG_5221.JPG

And here, the road we took, which was particularly icy !

One of the things that we come across quite often and that I particularly like are orientation tables like these, which help us to get to know the high peaks around us a little better.

IMG_5223.JPG

IMG_5224.JPG

Views down the valley and to the south, the heading we will be taking for at least the first hour of our excursion.

At the top, you can see a few isolated chalets and still a few of these little chapels.

IMG_5236.JPG

At one point, we have no choice but to cross the ski slopes we'll be descending the next day... Fortunately, it's not crowded and we're not bothering anyone at the rate we're going !

IMG_5245.JPG

IMG_5247.JPG

And here's the little resort of Molines - where we live - and its atmosphere, a few hours before nightfall and back from another exploration !

I hope you enjoyed this escapade in the mountains and, as well as wishing you a wonderful day, I'd like to thank you for your visit,

<3

Hello @anttn.. This looks like an incredibly beautiful place. I have never seen this place before, neither in posts nor in documentaries. It's a small town, but it commands the most beautiful mountains. It's a really beautiful place. Thanks. 🐝🐝

Doctors tell us there are over seven million people who are overweight.
Of course, those are only round figures.
