Fantastic Visit to the Aquarium of Paris
I think I have never heard so much "Nemo, Nemo, it's Nemooo !" in my life ! A few days ago, completely by chance, I found myself at the other end of Paris in the Immigration Palace of the Porte Dorée, not far from the Bois de Vincennes.
By chance because I came for a one-hour mission in the museum part of the place. I arrived at 8 o'clock and an hour later it was over. I had to hang up a fallen work... Not one I had hung up haha !
The person from the museum then told me about the aquarium and offered to let me in. I had no idea there was one and of course I accepted! But first, I'll give you a little tour of the building, its incredible main room and some views from the outside.
The Palais de la Porte Dorée building and the Museum of the History of Immigration
The Palais de la Porte-Dorée was built for the 1931 International Colonial Exhibition. The building is located at the Porte Dorée in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Today, it houses the Museum of the History of Immigration and the Palais de la Porte-Dorée aquarium. With a surface area of 17,000 m², this building is recognized as one of the jewels of Art Deco, inaugurating this movement of monumental architecture in Paris (just before the Palais de Chaillot and the Palais de Tokyo in 1937).
I think it's great that this place, which is very marked by a colonial aesthetic, has become a museum on the subject, because even if it's very beautiful, as you can see, it has become a bit embarrassing for an infinity of details and representations of the "other", the non-European.
As you can see, it is quite impressive architecturally...
When I arrived for my mission, it was like this at dawn.
Here are some details of the pediment and the main entrance. But let's go inside...
This room is huge, really high ceilings. The floor is made of a multitude of exotic woods, it was the showcase of the colonial empire. On all the walls, there are different representations of the parts of this empire.
Here, a detail with these massive metal doors.
The Asian-inspired ceiling is also very beautiful and impressive, one would like to have only a quarter of this at home !
Let's finish this introduction with some details of the floors which go around the room and which are all made of mosaic.
The aquarium
For the cover image, I wanted to give the impression of distinct aquariums and the feeling of diversity, you tell me what you think !
Let's start with some of the beginning aquariums, to get us started !
The first one I really stop in front of is this one with this turtle with such a strange snout. Right from the start, I realize how difficult it is to photograph animals that move all the time... or for others, that don't want to come out of their den !
As for the zoos, it always bothers me a little the animals in cages, but it is not me who is going to change all that alone and as I am there, I still enjoy the visit.
At the beginning, I was practically alone... Before the arrival of the groups of whole classes ^^ ! As far as possible, I tried to take the references of each species I wanted to include in this article, I find it more interesting and instructive !
Here, this almost fluorescent crayfish...
Here, it is perhaps my favorite animal with this axolotl, but he too did not want to be disturbed and in a way, I understand him !
The magnificence of the coral reefs...
In a basin next to the one dedicated to corals in the Indo-Pacific basin...
A peculiar brain-shaped coral, according to the legend, their tentacles would only come out at night.
Nemooo ! I'm just kidding, but it's always so nice to see the symbiosis between the anemone and the clownfish. This one looks so friendly !
Much more than this scorpion fish for example...!
The marbled hatchetfish that stays close to the surface and produces a double of its already asymmetric body shape !
Here is another of my favorites. The Archer Fish, which can shoot water jets from over 50cm away to knock insects into the water. Apparently it never misses !
The predators of America with this beautiful spotted ray and this humpback fish, unfortunately, I forgot to take its name !
It looks like there's nothing there, right ?
But in fact, the Matamata turtle is lurking, carpeted with its natural camouflage and freshwater algae shell ! Looks quite ferocious !
There was an exhibition on seaweed included in the tour, so I went there to have a look...
Apart from this seaweed painting and the references of these three people who have depicted seaweed, either through painting or photography, I didn't take many more images. It was mostly things to feel and look at under the microscope, but it was very interesting.
A view of the central tank around which the other aquariums are distributed. A white crocodile can be seen taking its artificial light. I think that of all the animals present, it is perhaps him and the turtle at the beginning that made me feel the most sorry...
A species of fish from the island of Madagascar...
In Central and South America, with these colorful and delicate fishes.
Perhaps one of my favourite aquariums with this Pacific Horned Starfish. Have you spotted any of its babies ? Take a good look !
The central basin from another point of view...
Here, in New Caledonia with the colleague of the famous Nemo ^^ ! But what I prefer sometimes are almost the corals with their incredible shapes and colors and their state between the vegetal and the animal.
A representation of the globe and the Pacific Ocean made like in the time of the first explorers...
On my way out, I come across these few species of turtles below...
I hope you enjoyed the visit and learned a few things like I did. I haven't been in an aquarium for years, but I'd love to do it again !
Thank you for reading, don't hesitate to ask me your questions and your feelings in comments !
I wish you a very pleasant weekend, take care of yourself,
<3

I don't know if I've ever seen such a detailed and long post before, it must have been a very demanding job, I congratulate you.
The historic building is of impressive beauty, the architectural attention to detail is at the highest levels, a true work of art. As far as the aquarium is concerned, you let us take a real virtual tour inside it, among fish and crustaceans with amazing colors, really fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Hey @stea90 :)
This visit was so much an unexpected pleasure that it was one to share it as well ! I hope I will manage to discover some other place like that soon.. Maybe an other aquarium, who knows ?
Thanks you for your visit and sorry to answer so lately ! Have a nice week ahead ✌️
Don't worry about the response time, look, I'm replying to all messages now too, I caught myself late, but I look at them all sooner or later...
Thank you very much for sharing, when I see animals, especially aquatic ones, having a great passion for fishing, I am always enchanted. Then many of those you included in your post were really special and I didn't know them and it's rare that I don't know a fish, but it's the beauty of the world and Hive, there's always something to discover.
I wish you a beautiful day ;).
Hehe, feel like we're on the same rhythm !
I'm glad you enjoyed this visit and now that I know you're passionate about, this will motivate me to find an other aquarium ^^ ! Enjoy your weekend and take good care ✌️
Yes, because you too love nature and discover new things and it's very nice.
I can't wait to see the next aquarium, but in general the new places you will post. I added you to my favorites on ecency, so I won't miss them ;).
Have a wonderful weekend too!
Indeed ! I can't wait for the next big deep in the wild... Probably not before spring though.
Thanks you, that's very kind :) I hope you had fun, may the week ahead be sweet ✌️
Well done mate and sorry for the delay. I wish you to experience ever more splendid moments immersed in nature, because it is special and makes us feel part of something great.
The week is going well, I hope yours too, my best regards ;).
Thanks you ! I completely see what you're talking about and I cross my fingers for some of those moments :D
Now already the weekend, enjoy yours dear 🍀 !
Today I was in the mountains, also taking pictures for a new post in the snow, but my dog hurt her paw, so we had to go back and go to the vet. Tomorrow I have to treat her paw, but nothing serious, this weekend it's off, but it happens.
I wish you a wonderful weekend too my friend!
Nice for the walk in the mountains, less for your dog's paw ! I hope she's well and will be fine soon !!
Take good care both and looking forward to see that post of you 😉
Thanks you ✌️
Thanks man, my dog is better now, she won't be able to go for walks for a few days, but nothing serious. I wish you a beautiful day ;).
Nice ! I hope it will not last too long, both of you may be impatient for the next walk, but it's certainly better if it's healed thoroughly !
Thanks you, the week is starting well and I hope that is the case for you too 🤞🍀
Thank you so much my friend! We'll expect Shyla to have made a full recovery, as the vet also administered antibiotics so the wound better not touch too much around.
Everything else is fine yes. I am happy that your week has started well, I wish you to become even better. 😉
How long the medicine man told you it should last ? I hope it will not be too long :)
Many thanks dear ✌️ and sorry to answer so lately... as always 😅 I guess it's kind of my style ^^
Have a very nice day !
Don't worry, I've been busy too and am now replying to many messages where it's already been a few days.
I have to cream Shyla's paw until Sunday, but already today it seemed to be healed well.
Thanks mate, have a happy weekend ;).
Quite the same here, sometimes you want to be focused, but it's not always the moment in life... and when it's the moment, you're already on something else :)
I hope it will not take too long from now 🤞 🍀
Thanks you, it's following it's rhythm nicely :)
Take good care too !
