Day One in the French Alps - Visiting St Véran, the Highest Village of Europe

avatar

Hey dear Hivers ! I know it's been a while since I last wrote to you and for that I really apologize. I hope I'll soon have the opportunity to explain a little about my absence and the reasons behind it.

To sum it up in a nutshell: Work - the hectic pace of life - work on the house in the country and in the garden - renewed interest in various other cryptocurrency projects.

It's a bit short, but if I manage to organise myself better, I think I could come back to it a bit more. At least I hope so, because my interest in HIVE isn't lost, it's just that I've been focusing on this one project for too long. I'll come back to that later, but please be aware that I'm making a real distinction between HIVE, the entity, the system and its blockchain, and the personal interactions I've had with some of you.

Once again, for those of you who may have been worried, I apologize and I hope you won't hold it against me too much !

IMG_5126.JPG

So I'm getting back into the swing of things with a trip we took to the mountains a few days ago. We left from Paris, which is quite a long way down to this region, the Queyras, in the south of France. I'd say that with 3 different trains, the journey took us more than 8 hours if you add the waiting time for the different journeys.

IMG_5127.JPG

Here we are at the station of one of these stages before finally arriving in the mountains at an altitude of nearly 2000 meters.

I didn't take any pictures of the arrival, and for good reason, as it took place at night, all we could think about was getting to bed so we could get on with the rest of our stay !

IMG_5134.JPG

So this is the first view we had from the hotel window in the early hours of the morning... Not bad, eh ?

IMG_5139.JPG

IMG_5137.JPG

IMG_5141.JPG

As we didn't yet have a (skiing) programme planned, we preferred to go for a walk in the village of St Véran. As the title suggests, this is one of the highest villages in Europe, but what really interested me was that it has been preserved in the atmosphere of its time, with its traditional wooden chalets.

IMG_5145.JPG

This is a perfect example, even if on closer inspection it looks rather recent in construction.

IMG_5147.JPG

IMG_5155.JPG

IMG_5157.JPG

We then headed out of the village, where we saw some of the sights, but above all the extent to which the south-facing face, which gets the most sun, was devoid of snow...!

In our discussions with the people who live there and depend on tourism and snow for their livelihood, I can't hide the fact that this is one of the subjects that comes up most often !

IMG_5159.JPG

IMG_5162.JPG

We continue our walk a little way out of the village. We were treated to scenes that we rarely get to see (unless we already live in the mountains). The air is also particularly fresh and pure, and it's a real pleasure to be back in the snow, which obviously brings back childhood memories !

IMG_5167.JPG

IMG_5163.JPG

IMG_5170.JPG

And that's where our journey ends, just above the village, which you can see on the horizon. I hope to be able to continue with the visit to the village and the first day of skiing in the next few days !

I also hope you've had a good time reading this article, and I'd like to say hello again :)

Have a good weekend, see you soon !

PS: if I can't find the time to write articles, I'll have even less time to reply to all your comments. On the other hand, one upvote = one read !

Hey chers Hivers !

Yes, it's been a while but life sometimes gets hectic so we have to cut down on things. Oh, this winter landscape from the mountains is pretty cool. The view from the hotel room is not bad at all haha. It is perfect! 😉

How beautiful… you certainly visited at a good time - the crisp, clear sunshine is just perfect. And what a view from hour hotel room! 🏔️ Directly towards the mount. Excited to see how the journey will unfold. Look forward to how your story unfolds in the village of St. Véran.

Hello @anttn
Hope you have a great day & I really like your first picture. Why? because it is impossible for me to enjoy the beauty & cold of winter in my country. :)
