A Misty Morning Walk in the Medieval Town of Mortagne-au-Perche
Hello dear Hivers, I hope you are doing well ! It's amazing how many things you can do in one well-organized day ! But it's also tiring, and you need periods of rest and recuperation. This walk I took before doing my shopping for the house is just such a time.
Here's Mortagne, the nearest small town to where we live and where you can find just about everything you need ! It's a charming medieval town that I find very well preserved, at least compared to many other medium-sized towns that are overrun with phone shops and other standardised chains.
But without further ado, let's begin this visit with, as the title suggests, a misty morning, when fortunately it wasn't raining !
Here we are in one of the town's main squares, home to this charming "Turret House". I think it sets the right tone and atmosphere from the outset...
Here's a map showing the different heritage sites in the city, but for my first visit, I decided to go by instinct and be purely exploratory.
Just behind the Hôtel de la mairie, you'll find this charming little French-style public garden, which was even more beautiful when shrouded in the morning mist.
Here it is again, with a little more historical information about its construction...
We're back in the first little square, where there's an old-fashioned theatre that now houses the town's cinema and library.
A few alleys further on, we reach the cathedral square, where we're going to have a quick look around...
Here's the main nave, with its vaulted architecture that never fails to impress us !
Let's take a moment to admire the stained glass windows, which recount a little of the city's history - well, mainly that of the region's nobles !
Here we are outside again, and you'll notice on this last information panel that the bell tower was originally quite different from what it is now. It must have been particularly beautiful with its slate dome !
A typical local atmosphere, with a place of honor for one of the town's delicatessens...
This is the Porte St Denis, which is right next to the house of the Comtes du Perche. Both monuments have museums on the history of Mortagne, and I'm sure I'll be popping in there soon !
Here's some more information on these two buildings, but unfortunately it's only available in French.
I continue on my way, taking my time to admire the facades of the houses and other buildings I pass...
Here, the old Courthouse...
And then there was the community centre, where you can see that the facade is much more recent than the rest of the building !
The small square at the back is dedicated to the author Alain, a literary figure from the region.
Other facades covered in red vines round off this visit with a medieval flavor !
I finish this visit with another view of the cathedral from the back, and not far from there I find my car and head off to do my shopping to find what I need for the garden !
But that's another story for another time :)
I hope you've enjoyed this little tour of Mortagne with me, and I'd like to thank you for your time and wish you a very pleasant day,
<3

<3

Wow
Just the map did a fantastic job
It is really nice to see this
Awesome buildings… with a beautiful walk.
I like the spiderweb in the gate and the glass stained windows.
Have a lovely day @anttn 👋🏻😊
Thank you @littlebee4 😇
Those are also my favorite ! We want more of those spiderwebs with droplets in a misty style !!
Have a lovely day as well 😘
You know what would be cool. If the spiderweb is so wet with droplets and they freeze into ice.
I still hope to capture that one day 🤓
Thank you kindly, happy Friday 👋🏻😘
A foggy misty building can add such a cool surreal feel to a place
I love that turret building
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Indeed ! Plus the city was at that time quite free of people in the streets :)
Add a turret and for me, it's already a castle 😅 !
Thank you @tattoodjay, I wish you a good day, hopping you're doing well !
The map alone looks nice, I love the view of the place even though it's an old building but it still looks cool.
You're right !
Yeah, I too love the old buildings and traditional ways of living :)
Take care @iskawrites ✌️
You are fortunate living so close to Mortagne, a fascinating town, so much history and character. You managed to capture the essence of the old village in your blog. The photos of the stained glass windows are beautiful @anttn.
That's true ! In fact, when we found the house, we're were not aware that a beautiful medieval town was so close !
I appreciate your words and I'm glad that you enjoyed this first visit ! Thank you @lizelle 😘
The paintings on the wall are really something to admire. These details inside the churches are amazing.
Was there a spider web in one of the photos, man? How sturdy they are, they don't fall apart even in the rain.
Yeah, definitely ! That spiderweb was at the entrance of the little garden hehe 😂 Definitely something ultra resistant !!
Mmmh, stained glass, probably something I would love to learn !
Hello, your photos are top 📸 Thank you for sharing 😊
Many many thank @name0 😇
If I had my camera, it would have been "even" better :)
Have a good day and take care 😘

I love the style of the buildings. An old one yet with incredible structures. Thanks for sharing your misty walk with us.
You're most welcome @selflessgem ! Thank you for visiting and appreciating this one ✌️
Have a good day !
I love that photo with the spider web and water droplets on it, so pretty! 😊 And the stained glass windows in the church are stunning too!
When we travel I like to have an exact itinerary (that we can vary a bit), so that we manage as much as possible during our trips 😊
Thank you dear Martina - you can call me Anthony :)
Even without you telling, I kind of known it already 😅 I imagine that very easily from the composition of your articles ! Sometime I kind of fantasize to have the same good rigor while visiting a place, either a small city than a museum, but every time, I finish by instinct first and foremost !
But sometimes I'd like to do it in a more structured way 😂
Have a sweet weekend and I hope you'll have good times in the garden or visiting a special place... 😘
Charming medieval village indeed! And while it's miserable to explore in wet weather that misty effect certainly adds to the delightful feeling of travelling back in time
Coucou, Cool ton post!
