Male Mosquitoes: Unique Facts and Their Role in Nature (English - Español)
Did you know that male mosquitoes do not bite us humans, and male mosquitoes are part of a mosquito species that has biological characteristics and behavior that are very different compared to female mosquitoes, which we as a general public often assume are all bloodsuckers, even though what actually happens is that male mosquitoes do not bite us humans or animals at all because these insects do not have the mouth structure needed to penetrate the skin and suck blood.

Hello #amazingnature friends, wherever you are, this time I'm back in this beloved community. It's been almost a month since I've shared a blog post in this extraordinary community.
I liken myself to a traveler. Even though a traveler is very happy and happy living in a foreign country, his hometown is the most comfortable place he misses. That's how it is with me, wherever I share my blog, it's ultimately this community that I miss the most.
In this post, I want to share a simple blog about interesting facts about male mosquitoes.
So, keep following my blog to see some pictures and short articles about these insects.

| Then, when I was resting in a makeshift place, my body was surrounded by a group of mosquitoes that were so annoying, that I decided to light a cigarette, because lighting a cigarette in a situation like this is not a bad thing, I think 😃 | Entonces, mientras descansaba en un lugar improvisado, mi cuerpo fue rodeado por un grupo de mosquitos tan molestos que decidí encender un cigarrillo, porque encender un cigarrillo en una situación así no es mala idea, creo 😃 |

| But at that time I noticed that not all mosquitoes bite me, and after I looked for information that male mosquitoes are part of a mosquito species that has biological characteristics with very different behavior compared to female mosquitoes. The most reasonable reason that I concluded at that time, all these mosquitoes swarmed me because they felt threatened when they were perched on wild leaves, and at that opportunity male mosquitoes with female mosquitoes would mix where the female mosquitoes smelled my body odor then bit me, while the males they returned to their original place, perched on wild leaves. |
My friend...
The primary energy source for male mosquitoes comes from natural sweet fluids such as flower nectar, plant sap, and fruit juice.
These insects play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance in the wild. Besides serving as pollinators while searching for food, male mosquitoes also serve as a vital food link for other predators such as bats, dragonflies, and spiders.

| Regarding the main characteristics of male mosquitoes, there are several prominent physical characteristics, including the shape of the antenna, where the antenna on male mosquitoes looks much thicker and hairier than female mosquitoes. Next is body size, where in general the body dimensions of male mosquitoes tend to be smaller and slimmer than female mosquitoes of the same species. Finally, we can distinguish female mosquitoes from male mosquitoes by their eating patterns, where male mosquitoes are herbivores that consume carbohydrates from plants as fuel to fly and survive. |
My friend...
The difference between male and female mosquitoes is crucial in the context of public health, especially regarding the spread of diseases like malaria and dengue fever.
And honestly, I personally find it very difficult to distinguish between the two without looking closely. I used to think that all mosquitoes were bloodsuckers. But now I realize that male mosquitoes don't bite humans or animals at all because they lack the mouthparts necessary to penetrate the skin and suck blood.

| Regarding the role in the ecosystem as well as reproduction, male mosquitoes play a vital role in the sustainability of the population of their species where the main biological task of males is to detect the presence of females using their sensitive antennae and perform mating reproductive success, this determines the regination of mosquito populations in a habitat. While in a broader environmental context the habit of male mosquitoes that move from one flower to another to suck nectar helps the pollination process of certain plants, although they are not as popular as bees or butterflies. In addition, the biomass produced by larvae and adult male mosquitoes provides a source of nutrition for aquatic and air ecosystems where small fish eat mosquito larvae while birds and predatory insects prey on adult mosquitoes creating a natural food chain balance. |

Have you ever had malaria?
I live in Aceh, a malaria-endemic region in Indonesia. However, I haven't experienced any symptoms of malaria yet. However, I personally can't be sure I don't have malaria because I've never had a blood test at a community health center. I think my immune system might be immune, but I don't know. I'm definitely on high alert and don't want to get the disease.
Oh yes, thank you very much for your comment, my friend. Have a nice day😉😉
