Adventure Trails in Jaboi: Follow Me as We Explore One of Indonesia's Hidden Active Volcanoes

Follow my blog this time to see another side of Weh Island that people rarely know, its name is jaboi an active volcano whose view is like in a movie, located in Jaboi village, Sukajaya District, where this volcano is only 200 meters above sea level (masl) and is one of the favorite tourist destinations on Weh Island.

Most people vacationing on Pulau Weh head straight for the island's beautiful and famous beaches, such as Iboih Beach, Gapang Beach, and the already well-known 0 km point. However, the island has another side that people rarely talk about: a mountain called Mount Jaboi.

A few days ago, I managed to set foot there, and honestly, it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had on a vacation to Pulau Weh. So, keep following my simple blog for some pictures of this active volcano, along with short articles about my personal experiences visiting this tourist destination.

Pulau Weh not only offers marine tourism destinations, but this island at the western tip of Indonesia also boasts an exotic and interesting active volcano that is worth visiting.

Jaboi Volcano, located in Jaboi Village, Sukajaya District, stands 200 meters above sea level and is a favorite tourist destination in Sabang. From my personal experience on a motorcycle, when visiting this tourist destination, along the route, I saw the beauty of Pulau Weh surrounded by green forests. I was also occasionally treated to stunning views of the island as I reached higher points. Furthermore, Jaboi Volcano is relatively easy to find, as there are clear road signs.

On our journey, I was amazed by the views of the Jaboi area, as it's nestled within a forest, creating a refreshingly cool atmosphere.

Although the weather was sunny, the area had just been drenched by rain, and the rain had only just stopped upon our arrival. We only saw traces of the rain due to the wet conditions.

Upon arriving at the location, I immediately parked my vehicle on the side of the road, where a designated area for visitors to park their motorbikes was provided. Next, I saw several notice boards briefly explaining the active volcano, along with a simple building located upon first entering the area. This building serves as the main post for the Mount Jaboi tourist destination.

Next, I saw a simple wooden gate with the words "Jaboi Nature Tourism" hung from woven bamboo. This was the start of the trail, which I found to be very shady, with a path flanked by tall trees and the sound of birds, and the cool air still lingering in this area.
At first, I thought this was a very easy trail, but then my friend told me this was just a warm-up; we would have about 30 minutes of walking ahead to reach the crater (he said).

Then, the views I enjoyed in the area were so extraordinary, that without realizing it, I had spent almost half an hour on the trail. Eventually, I began to smell the sulfur, a sign that I was nearing the crater.

"Welcome to Mount Jaboi," read the simple sign that greeted me when I first arrived, having already completed a 30-minute walk.

As soon as we emerged from the thicket of trees, we were greeted by a sight that made me pause. Honestly, this was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had on vacation on Weh Island. I saw large rocks scattered around the cracked ground, surrounded by trees. It felt like something out of a movie. I believe this is one of the active volcanoes on Weh Island that you should definitely visit if you're on vacation there. It offers hands-on education. The walk here is like a free geology class, where you can directly observe volcanic activity, rock types, and vegetation that grows in acidic soil.
Honestly, I was very amazed to visit this active volcano, how could I not be, even though I had just started exploring the Mount Jaboi area and I had not yet reached the first crater in the tourist destination area. However, I was already speechless with the stunning view.

Mount Jaboi has four active craters, and this is one of the craters of Mount Jaboi, an active volcano in the western tip of Indonesia.

What makes this tourist destination unique is that we can walk directly above the volcanic area, and in some spots, thin smoke still rises from the cracks in the rocks. It felt a little warm at the time, with a very strong smell of sulfur. I saw small mud bubbles slowly bubbling, and my guide told me to be careful because the ground could be hot. He also strictly forbade me from smoking in the area. So I sat there for a while on a rock, mesmerized by the sound of the wind and the occasional small explosions from the ground. I was truly amazed to be able to visit and experience the natural beauty of Pulau Weh firsthand.

If one day you go on holiday to Weh Island and visit this natural tourist destination, the advice I can give you is to bring drinking water because there are no stalls in this area and also at the main post the stalls are usually only available on certain days, namely Saturdays and Sundays, so bringing drinking water from the start of the trip is one of the tips that you need to prepare when going on holiday and visiting this natural tourist destination.

In this area, I also found several signs indicating the safe limits for visitors to stand, and it is recommended that we stay in the crater area for no more than 30 minutes for health reasons.

These are some of the images I'm sharing on my blog this time regarding one of the natural tourist destinations, the Jaboi volcano on Pulau Weh. From there, I learned a message. In one corner of the crater, I saw a small sign with a warning, reminding us to remain vigilant. For me, this also serves as another reminder that nature is beautiful but also possesses great power. Jaboi teaches us all that Pulau Weh is not only about the beauty of its blue beaches, but also about the hot land, silent forests, and the power of the earth that still moves to this very moment.
