Cielos del piedemonte / Skies of the piedmont.

Entre los Estados Lara y Trujillo, en nuestra geografía venezolana, comienza a formarse la Gran Cordillera Andina, comienza en nuestro país y recorre varios países suramericanos.

En la zona sur / oeste, hay una serie de pueblos inmersos al pie de esa cordillera, son los pueblos del piedemonte, pueblos de clima frío y caracterizados por estar en zonas muy altas.

Pueblos apacibles, coloridos y cargados de tradiciones, sus habitantes, gente buena, humilde y sencilla, muy trabajadora y con quienes el viajero siempre puede contar.

Se caracterizan estos pueblos por sus tradiciones enclavadas en su profunda fe, son conocidos por sus velorios de santo, las paraduras, las celebraciones de semana mayor, los días de los locos, carnaval y sus fiestas típicas de cada pueblo.

Entre sus platos tradicionales se puede degustar el mute y el mondongo, la arepa andina, las cachapas, el calentaito, el mojito, siendo también muy apreciado su queso, las legumbres y las hortalizas.

En estas estribaciones encontramos a San Pedro, Jabón, Barbacoas, Carache, La cuchilla, el Empedrado, Libertad, Lomas de Bonilla, Las Llanadas, Cerro Libre, Cuicas entre otros que están antes de llegar al estado Mérida.

Sus habitantes parecen haberse quedado en los días del ayer no olvidado, sus tardes son de compartir en los portales de las viejas casonas, ir a los juegos de pelota criolla, las peleas de gallos o simplemente ir a misa, donde las iglesias son de muy bella arquitectura.

Si algo me gusta de estos pueblos, son sus hermosos cielos, intensamente azules al mediodía, o gris pizarra a otras horas.

Sus nubes son como copos de algodón que recorren las distancias, hasta perderse detrás de las grandes montañas.

Between the states of Lara and Trujillo, in our Venezuelan geography, the Great Andean Mountain Range begins to form, it starts in our country and crosses several South American countries.

In the south / west zone, there are a series of towns immersed at the foot of this mountain range, they are the piedmont towns, towns of cold climate and characterized by being in very high areas.

Peaceful, colorful and full of traditions, its inhabitants, good, humble and simple people, very hardworking and with whom the traveler can always count on.

These towns are characterized by their traditions embedded in their deep faith, they are known for their wakes of the saint, the "paraduras", the celebrations of major week, the days of the madmen, carnival and their typical festivities of each town.

Among its traditional dishes you can taste the mute and the mondongo, the Andean arepa, the cachapas, the calentaito, the mojito, being also very appreciated its cheese, legumes and vegetables.

In these foothills we find San Pedro, Jabón, Barbacoas, Carache, La cuchilla, El Empedrado, Libertad, Lomas de Bonilla, Las Llanadas, Cerro Libre, Cuicas among others that are before reaching the state of Mérida.

Its inhabitants seem to have remained in the days of yesterday not forgotten, their evenings are to share in the portals of the old houses, go to the Creole ball games, cockfighting or just go to mass, where the churches are very beautiful architecture.

If there is something I like about these towns, it is their beautiful skies, intensely blue at noon, or slate gray at other times.

Their clouds are like cotton flakes that travel the distances, until they get lost behind the great mountains.
