Wednesday Walk: Boost Your Social and Mental Health With Kids and Animals

The weather in my place is good enough to have a walk this Wednesday morning. I woke up at 4:45 am to list all of my to-dos for today and prepare myself for a jog.

Who will not forget the Wednesday walk? I told myself that I shouldn’t be lazy today. The clock hit 5:00 am and it was time to prepare myself for a short walk.

I always walk in the same place that I mentioned last week.

On my way, I saw these goats eating the grasses nearby the lake.

They are always calm when I am walking on their territory. There are even cows joining them, but they are not captured in the photo.

Then I saw this snail on the street, walking and crawling slowly.

It reminds me of Gary from Spongebob which made me think: “Gary is a snail, but why is he underwater?”

I found out that he is a sea snail. Which is for unknown reasons, it meows.

On my way home, I saw this army of ducks having a meeting on how they can get food.

It is a happy family of ducks. I was thinking if the mother would go toward me while taking a photo. Maybe it thinks that I will go after her ducklings.

If there are ducklings, I also saw a kitten while I am having a jog.

This kitten was crying while I was walking. It caught my attention and decided to take a photo of it. It is the main reason why my theme is about animals.

I am not into cats, but why most animals are cute when they are babies?

The kitten was following me while walking so I ran (jog) and looked to see if it could follow me…and as expected it’s not.

I go back to the same place but it’s nowhere to be found.

I decided to go home and take a photo of this garden from another community nearby.

It is good to see how people maintain this garden.

While editing the image, I was fascinated when I tried to turn the leaves from green to red and yellow. They looked like Cherry Blossoms.

Imagine if there were several trees like this in my place, it’s peaceful.

In the afternoon, I also walk with a kid while having a fun conversation. I even bought him street food, also known as kwek-kwek. It is popular street food in the Philippines!

I decided to blur his face because it is an epic fail picture and he might be mad at me when I show this.

I saw him playing on the street. Since the Barangay Fiesta is nearly approaching my place, there are street vendors selling toys – it’s a culture in the Philippines.

At last, while we were walking, these kids caught my attention while they were playing beside the lake.

It’s the joy and presence that we have to feel. When we are a kid, we are wishing that we want to be an adult. Then when we become adults, we will realize that it is better to become a kid.

In the end, I had 10,356 step counts for the day. My goal is to reach 7,000 step counts each day to burn calories for fitness and healthy living. This is also my way of technology and social media detoxing.

It was a fun walk with animals and a kid. It is a good way to escape from the digital world where fake and stressful news is spreading.

Wednesday walk reminds everyone to take a walk and appreciate nature.
