A Little Boat Trip to Jordan's Mill

(Edited)

We're on holidays this week, on staycation as it were, and while we're spending a fair bit of time on musical projects we also allocated some on finally tidying up our shed, where we found this:

We couldn't resist to take it out on a little river near Jordan's Mill, planning it to go downstream for about a mile, making it a little easier on ourselves..
One mile is quite enough time to fall out over how best to row a boat.. 😂

Jordan's Mill is owned by "The Jordans & Ryvita Company Limited", a big cereal producer in the UK, and of course did we stop at the end for some refreshments.

Having one car at each end of the journey, we first had to set things up, though. We were glad to have the electrical pump connected to the car; it was quite hot enough, and the foot pump wasn't an option.

Launching our vessel into rather shallow water at the mill pond. The whole section we went on isn't very deep at a all.

We started off the traditional way, me rowing backwards, but it turned out to be too narrow and quite vegetated, so the paddles kept getting stuck; we quickly decided to go forward instead, canoe style, which worked much better.

It was so quite and lovely, just serene!

The summer heat has made algae grow a fair bit.

And here we are at Jordan's Mill... forgot to take pictures of how we got out, but I dare say, it wasn't a pretty sight anyhow.. 😂

A boat trip downstream does not justify the amount of calories in this set-up, but, hey, who cares, its got to be done.. he he

It put a smile on my face for sure..

That's a nice way to travel. I have cycled up to there from here.

About 20 years ago we went for a walk near Jordan's Mill before they built all the new stuff there. We got talking with an old guy who was feeding the ducks and eventually realised this was Mr Jordan who started the company. He was quite a character.
