My pet lizard Poshosho!
A weekee-greeting to all Hivers!! Today I'll tell you about a cute little guy who's destined to suffer every day by several hugs, tiny belly rubs and frequent pets because of me. Hope all Hive pet owners feel identified!
I live in a building, in the top floor. Having animals like dogs or cats is not easy in a place like this because they have no space to run around, they need to go outside to do their needs and have no contact with nature, also counting that there are barely trees or grassy areas around the neighborhood.
So if I take care of an animal it has to be small, like a hamster or a bird. I don't like parakeets because they're noisy and I've never seen any other species of domestic birds in animal shops around. I had a hamster when I was little but it died due to food poisoning. Then I had a turtle named Lola, for a year or so. After her tragic death (which I feel too ashamed to tell about) my parents got me a fish tank and we cared of river fish for many years. Fish got boring with time, but I remember having a carp and a catfish that liked pets. They were actually my last fish because the local fish shop closed before the pandemic. When they passed away we emptied the fish tank and sold it.
I started considering other animals to take care of, like rabbits or couriers... But I noticed that I could get a cute special animal anywhere for free, since they're found in every bush, grid or tree in Cuba. And from that day on I started taking care of lizards.
I name all my lizards Poshosho with a Roman number next to it to honor the first Poshosho I ever had, the best ever. I took care of it for more than 10 months until one day, when I left his cage open and unsupervised and got eaten by the neighbor's cat... He was truly 'The Legend'. The next Poshoshos didn't last as long as it did under my care for several reasons like the need of freeing them before a long trip, escaping and some infections and diseases.
Unfortunately, I forgot the Poshosho's count long ago and I'm not sure if my current Poshosho is Poshosho XVI or XVII... or maybe XVIII???
... Anyways, enough talk.
Meet Poshosho!
Poshosho is an adult male Green Anole (all previous Poshoshos were as well) who's really unaggressive and calm. He's not scared of humans and never tries to bite an approaching hand unlike many others I've had before. He likes neck pets and sleeping inside empty cans of Pringles.
He's kind of sneaky, hides every time I'm not watching. He's free to go wherever he wants inside my bedroom, so you can imagine every possible place I have found him in, like under the bed covers, or inside a book, or on top of the bookshelves, or walking sideways on the window curtains. For security purposes, I always keep the fan off when I'm not home or when he gets close to it.
I feed him bugs like flies and rice weevils, and sometimes fruits like banana and mango. He likes more licking drops of mango juice instead of eating little mango pieces; Poshoshos always prefer it that way, it never fails.
He's on @eddyss's hand here:
I tried taking a picture of him eating a fly but he gobbled it up really fast, didn't even give me a chance...
This species can change colors in the range between lime green and dark brown. They are used for camouflage but they also represent emotions as well. When these lizards feel uncomfortable or stressed they tend to turn to dark colors with many black lines and marks on their head and legs and usually become aggressive. When they're not feeling like that their color has less contrast with the environment and blends in it better. But when there is nothing to camouflage with they just stay green or kind of yellow around light colors and stay brown around dark colors in the environment.
As you see, he kind of wasn't enjoying the photo session. Even jumped to the fan trying to get away. Don't worry it was turned off.
He gave me a mean side eye so I decided to stop bothering him with pictures XD
Hope you liked my post and my cute Poshosho XXI (yes, I just remembered), read you on the next one :D

Oh no, the fate of the very first Poshosho was unfortunate 😱 😂 but cats like to chase lizards, I know that as my parents' cat used to bring home lizards 😵
As you are a lizard whisperer, I should invite you the next time we go to a place where I saw two (or it was one but appeared twice) big lizards. I didn't manage to take a photo of it, but wow, it was so cool to see it.
Poshosho number I, he will always stay in my heart.
I'd really love to go there :D, will definitely take it or them home to stay with my current Poshosho and they all gotta get along or else...😂
But first, got to see if my mom lets me keep it/them,
And I know she wouldn't 😔
