I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and peaceful holiday season. As is my tradition, I visited the Miltenberg Christmas market again this year. This year, I chose the last Sunday before Christmas for my visit. Fortunately, it wasn't quite as bitterly cold, so my hands didn't feel like they were falling off while I was taking pictures, unlike last year. I start my tour at the Würzburg Gate, which always welcomes me as I always approach Miltenberg from the east (from Würzburg).

ich wünsche Euch allen Frohe Weihnachten und eine schöne und zugleich besinnliche Zeit. Wie es für mich Tradition ist, war ich auch dieses Jahr wieder auf dem Miltenberger Weihnachtsmarkt unterwegs. Dieses Jahr habe ich den letzten Sonntag vor Weihnachten dafür ausgewählt. Zum Glück war es nicht ganz so bitter kalt, so daß mir beim Fotografieren nicht wie letztes Jahr gefühlt die Hände abgefallen sind. Meinen Rundgang starte ich am Würzburger Tor, daß mich immer begrüßt, da ich Miltenberg stets aus östlicher Richtung (aus Richtung Würzburg) anfahre.

We used to go to the Christmas market in Miltenberg when I was young. What strikes me is that there are still quite a few traditional shops here. In Wertheim, we have seen an alarming number of potential retail spaces standing empty.

Schon zu meinen Jugendzeiten waren wir auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt in Miltenberg. War mir auffällt ist, daß es hier doch noch einige traditionelle Geschäfte gibt. In Wertheim habe wir einen erschreckenden Leerstand potentieller Ladengeschäfte zu verzeichnen.

The Christmas market was really busy on the day I was there. The atmosphere was great and already a little festive.

Der Weihnachtsmarkt war an dem Tag, an dem ich dort war, wirklich sehr gut besucht. Die Stimmung war sehr gut und schon ein wenig festlich.

As I did last year, I walked up to Mildenburg Castle again this year. There were even a few traffic jams on the way up to the castle—that's how well attended the event was. The view from Mildenburg Castle of the beautiful little town on the Lower Main is also a sight to behold at night.

Wie schon letztes Jahr, bin auch dieses Jahr wieder zur Mildenburg hochgelaufen. Auf dem Aufgang zur Burg gab sogar einige Stausituationen - so gut besucht war die Veranstaltung. Der Blick von der Mildenburg auf das schöne Städtchen am Untermain ist auch bei Nacht ein Hingucker.

In the courtyard of Mildenburg Castle, visitors could once again enjoy mulled wine and other beverages this year while listening to musical performances by a band. The keep is always atmospherically lit for this event.

Im Innenhof der Mildenburg konnte man auch dieses Jahr wieder Glühwein und andere Getränke zu sich nehmen und den musikalischen Darbietungen einer Band lauschen. Der Bergfried ist dazu immer stimmungsvoll beleuchtet.

I would have liked to park at the old train station again. Until a few months ago, you could park there for free and walk from there to the city center in about 5-10 minutes along the Main river promenade, which is now festively lit. Unfortunately, the parking lot now charges a fee, so as a penny pincher, I looked for another parking spot. I don't mind walking a few meters. Quite the contrary. I didn't want to get drunk, I just wanted to soak up the pre-Christmas atmosphere and get some exercise. With the advantage that I can feast properly during the holidays without any regrets. ;-)

Ich hätte gerne wieder am alten Bahnhof geparkt. Bis vor einigen Monaten konnten man dort nämlich noch kostenlos parken und von dort aus an der nun sehr feirlich beleuchteten Mainuferpromenade in etwa 5-10 Minuten in die Stadt laufen. Leider wird an dem Parkplatz nun auch "Wegzoll" verlangt, so daß ich mir in meiner Eigenschaft als Sparfuchs einen anderen Parkplatz gesucht habe. Mir macht es nichts aus, wenn ich paar Meter laufen muß. Ganz im Gegenteil. Ich wollte mich ja nicht betrinken, sondern einfach nur die vorweihnachtliche Stimmung aufsaugen und mich ein wenig bewegen, damit ich ganz viele Marzipanbrote schlemmen kann.
