Hello dear friends,

I am back on HIVE after what feels like an eternal break. Actually, I just wanted to enjoy the last vacation week in peace - without PC work - with my family. That's what I did. And it was good. Unfortunately, the start of school was rather stressful, and we were all in bad health. In German we say that something like that really stinks to me. This paraphrase serves me well as a transition to the octopus mushroom, which I found again after a few years break.

ich melde mich einer gefühlt ewigen Pause zurück auf HIVE. Eigentlich wollte ich nur die letzte Ferienwoche in Ruhe - ohne PC Arbeit - mit meiner Familie genießen. Das habe ich auch getan. Und es war gut. Der Schulbeginn verlief dann leider eher stressig, und wir waren dann zudem auch noch alle gesundheitlich ziemlich angeschlagen. Sowas stinkt mir dann doch gewaltig. ;-)

Stink - the octopus stinkhorn (or devil's fingers or star stinkhorn) can do this perfectly. Just like the stinkhorn, the octopus stinkhorn attracts flies with the smell of carrion, which ensures its spread.

Stinken - das kann auch der Tintenfischpilz. Ebenso wie die Stinkmorchel lockt der Titenfischpilz Fliegen mit dem Geruch nach Aas an, was für seine Verbreitung sorgt.

The stinkhorn is even edible raw when very young, as a witch's egg - as it is called in German. Old specimens stink so badly of carrion that no one would think of using the stinkhorn for culinary purposes.

Die Stinkmorchel ist in ganz jungem Zustand, als Hexenei, sogar roh eßbar. Alte Exemplare stinken derart nach Aas, so daß niemand auf die Idee kommen dürfte, sich kulinarisch an der Stinkmorchel zu betätigen.

I prefer to use porcini mushrooms and chanterelles. However, you should keep your hands off very old mushrooms. When the protein of the mushrooms is decomposing, you can catch a really bad food poisoning.

Ich greife dann doch lieber auf Steinpilze und Pfifferlinge zurück. Allerdings sollte man von sehr alten Pilzen die Finger lassen. Wenn das Eiweis der Pilze "drüber" ist, kann man sich nämlich eine richtig fette Lebensmittelvergiftung einfangen.

At the moment, it is far too dry again for lush mushroom growth. On the other hand, a fair has finally been taking place again in Wertheim since 2019 - the Wertheim Michaelmas Fair. I have also been to the fair in the neighboring town of Miltenberg twice with my family. Fairs have a magical attraction for me ;-)

Momentan ist es bei uns wieder viel zu trocken für üppiges Pilzwachstum. Dafür findet bei uns in Wertheim seit 2019 endlich wieder eine Kirmes statt - die Wertheimer Michaelismesse. Auch auf der Kirmes im Nachbarort Miltenberg war ich mit der Familie zweimal. Jahrmärkte üben eine magische Anziehungskraft auf mich aus. ;-)
