Recientemente, el Lunes en la mañana, visité el Asilo de Ancianos, la última vez que visité este lugar lo visite como Voluntaria en la Fundación "Dr. Sonrisa" Payasos de Hospital, como motivo de llevar Sonrisa a los ancianos, tenía 17 años cuando la Crisis del 2017 en Venezuela comenzó y el Lunes fui a visitarlo por primera vez como Fisioterapeuta. Me invitó mi amiga Miguelina, iba una colega mía llamada Raidelys y otra masoterapeuta pero no pudieron asistir. Hoy, te cuento como fue mi experiencia en este Asilo de Ancianos, San Vicente de Paúl.

Recently, on Monday morning, I visited the Asilo de Ancianos, the last time I visited this place I visited it as a Volunteer in the Foundation “Dr. Sonrisa” Hospital Clowns, as a reason to bring Smile to our grandparents, I was 17 years old when the Crisis of 2017 in Venezuela began and on Monday I went to visit it for the first time as a Physiotherapist. I was invited by my friend Miguelina, a colleague of mine named Raidelys and another massotherapist were going but they could not attend. Today, I tell you how was my experience in this Nursing Home, San Vicente de Paul.

Nos tocaba estar a las 8:30 am afuera del Asilo de Ancianos, San Vicente de Paúl, en la Ciudad de Cumaná, donde vivo. Entonces me tocaba tomar mi pastilla de Eutirox, ya que tengo hipotiroidismo, para poder desayunar bien en la mañana. Me vestí, me puse una camisa que forma parte de un uniforme quirúrgico que me regalaron, un Jean y una Chaqueta de Sprint que mandamos a hacer que dice Fisioterapeuta y mi nombre, Andrea Rojas.

Entonces, elegí un bus que me dejara en todo el frente del Asilo de Ancianos San Vicente de Paúl, ya que queda al lado de la clínica San Vicente de Paúl.

We had to be at 8:30 am outside the Asilo de Ancianos, San Vicente de Paúl, in the city of Cumaná, where I live. Then it was my turn to take my Eutirox pill, since I have hypothyroidism, so I could have a good breakfast in the morning. I got dressed, I put on a shirt that is part of a surgical uniform that was given to me, a Jean and a Sprint Jacket that we had made that says Physiotherapist and my name, Andrea Rojas.

So, I chose a bus that would drop me off in front of the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, since it is next to the St. Vincent de Paul clinic.

Me dió curiosidad ver al primer señor leer un libro, solitario y dónde se ve a distancia que es poco participativo y es que cada historia de un abuelo o abuela es particular a la hora de contar. En este Asilo de Ancianos "San Vicente de Paúl" tiene muchas historias que merecen ser contadas aquí en Hive. Es que, Antonio, puede que no sea participativo, sin embargo, le encanta jugar dominó con los demás amigos. Antonio, también tiene una historia triste, sin embargo, aquí encuentra mejor su tranquilidad por decirlo así acompañado de sus amigos que comparte jugando dominó que al lugar dónde el habitaba.

Por otro lado, nos conseguimos con el Señor Jaime, que tuvo una fractura en la mano y por lo cuál, usa una férula. Se la quitamos para hacerle masajes y movilizaciones en su mano. Le recomendamos quitársela cuando se fuera a dormir, él siempre está y parece un bebé súper tierno.

I was curious to see the first man reading a book, solitary and where you can see from a distance that he is not very participative, because every grandfather's or grandmother's story is particular when it comes to telling it. In this Asilo de Ancianos “San Vicente de Paúl” has many stories that deserve to be told here in Hive. Antonio may not be participative, but he loves to play dominoes with his friends. Antonio also has a sad story, but here he finds his peace and quiet, so to speak, with his friends playing dominoes rather than in the place where he used to live.

On the other hand, we met with Mr. Jaime, who had a fracture in his hand and for which he wears a splint. We took it off to massage and mobilize his hand. We recommend him to take it off when he goes to sleep, he is always there and looks like a super cute baby.

Luego, le tocó al Señor Luis hacerle un drenaje linfático y movilizaciones. Debo decir, que el señor Luis está consiente de todo, sabe que trabajó en el ministerio, sabe dónde vive y le da sentimiento cuando recuerda que no fue un mal padre. Estuve conversando con el señor Jaime, es un señor muy amable y agradable. Le falta mucho atención y a diferencia de las mujeres, los hombres son los que están más consientes de todo.

Then, it was Mr. Luis' turn to undergo lymphatic drainage and mobilizations. I must say that Mr. Luis is aware of everything, he knows that he worked in the ministry, he knows where he lives and it makes him feel good when he remembers that he was not a bad father. I was talking with Mr. Jaime, he is a very kind and nice man. He lacks a lot of attention and unlike women, men are the ones who are more aware of everything.

Le estuve enseñando al Señor Luis, la coordinación en la marcha, caminando sobre las líneas y no fuera de ellas. Así, mejora la marcha, que muchas veces pasan por desapercibido.

I have been teaching Mr. Luis the coordination in walking, walking on the lines and not outside them. This way, he improves the gait, which many times goes unnoticed.

Enma, es una señora muy amable, tiene los ojos azules aunque ella diga que los tiene verde. La señora Enma, tiene osteoporosis y pues, necesita mucha atención. Se le hizo masaje en la cara y le gustó mucho. La Fundación Batallón de Amor, les obsequiaron tizanas, que es una especie de jugo con muchas frutas. A Enma le encanta mucho.

Enma is a very nice lady, she has blue eyes even though she says she has green eyes. Enma has osteoporosis and she needs a lot of attention. She had a massage on her face and she liked it very much. The Battalion of Love Foundation gave them tizanas, which is a kind of juice with lots of fruits. Enma loves it very much.

Fue una muy bonita experiencia, tenía desde el 2017 que no iba y volver, ver a Nancy siendo alegre como es ella me alegró el corazón. Tengo de ella un vídeo bailando merengue feliz con un muchacho que está en la fundación. Verla como adulta, cuando entré era una adolescente, es valorar todos estos momentos y vivir de cerca las historias de todos estos abuelos que de cierta manera son abandonados o acordados una que otras veces. Aquí hace falta mucha atención por parte del gobierno, el sueldo mínimo son menos de tres dólares y la cesta tickets son unos 40 dólares. No alcanza para abastecer las necesidades que aquí ameritan. Hacen falta Fisioterapeutas, enfermeros, médicos, ONG y fundaciones que puedan seguir ayudando a estos abuelos. Espero les haya gustado, nos vemos pronto!

It was a very nice experience, I hadn't been there since 2017 and to come back, to see Nancy being cheerful as she is made my heart happy. I have a video of her dancing merengue happily with a boy who is in the foundation. To see her as an adult, when I entered as a teenager, is to value all these moments and to live closely the stories of all these grandparents who in a certain way are abandoned or agreed to at times. Here we need a lot of attention from the government, the minimum wage is less than three dollars and the basket tickets are about 40 dollars. It is not enough to supply the needs that are required here. We need physiotherapists, nurses, doctors, NGOs and foundations that can continue to help these grandparents.
