Región Metropolitana de Chile con ojos de turista| Metropolitan Region of Chile through the eyes of a tourist
Sometimes breaking out of your routine and changing your daily landscape can feel difficult, but the truth is that many cities have a diverse range of places to visit and discover, which allows us to feel a little closer to their culture. From my perspective as a migrant, it's not always easy to connect, but if you change your perspective and see things through the eyes of a tourist, the landscape changes a lot.
From the plazas in downtown Santiago, to hidden museums that leave you in awe because they're housed in old mansions, to petting zoos where animals are protected and rescued from circuses and the like, all the way to the top of the Andes mountain range where the entire landscape turns white, all this and more is a pleasure to visit, whether you're a tourist or a local. And of course, don't forget the wide coastline that runs through Chilean territory and the colorful houses of Valparaiso. These places undoubtedly amaze tourists, and why not? For locals who want to see life through the eyes of a tourist from time to time.
Life is more beautiful when you decide to break away from the everyday, even if it's just once in a while, even if it's hard, to eat delicious and different things, to have a drink, to go up to the top floor of an old building you didn't know existed, to discover a church in the middle of a heritage site that looks like it's in ruins but that amazes you inside. Santiago has many hidden corners that invite you to discover them. I know I don't know them all, but I know there are many more. For now, these are the ones I know, and I hope to continue being surprised on days when I want to break away from the city and feel like a tourist, because in the end, that's what I am, a local tourist.
