Mural Arts in Kadıköy, Istanbul (I) [ENG & TR]

My neighborhood is a haven for mural enthusiasts.

Of course, we owe this beautiful situation to the fact that Kadıköy Municipality and Mural Istanbul have been jointly organizing the festival for years. In Kadıköy, this mural festival took place seven times between 2012 and 2019. Thirty-nine artists from seventeen different countries painted the walls, bringing color to our area.

For some reason, I never thought to write a post about these murals on Hive, even though I see them frequently when I go to the market, hang out in cafes with friends, or just stroll around the streets. That is, until I spoke with ewkaw in my most recent post in the Black and White community.

Fintan Magee created this piece near the intersection of Misaki Milli Street and Nakil Street. The design of the mural is very realistic and I think that if you try to interpret the buckets that people carry, you can get very different meanings. It's my kind of job. Australian muralist Fintan Magee is well-known throughout the world. The artwork that adorns the wall of this apartment building was painted in 2017 and has been there for almost 7 years. This realistic portrait on Kırmızı Kuşak Street was painted by Lonac, a Croatian artist based in Zagreb. He painted this mural in 2018 while attending the festival's sixth edition in Istanbul. I'm glad he took this action.

This piece by Italian muralist Pixel Pancho is a bit steampunk, a bit futuristic, and a bit surrealistic. The age of this piece is one of the things that strikes me, in addition to the artist's style. In 2012, Pixel Pancho painted this wall. Consider how long this project has been ongoing—nearly 12 years.

At this point, let's talk about the negative features of having a painting on an apartment wall for 12 years. For example, the mural you see above looked very nice until a few years ago. It was painted by the German artist Dome in 2012. It was an interpretation of Noah's Ark with its unusual lines - as far as I understood it. Unfortunately - as you can see in the photo - the renovation of the apartment building has ruined this beautiful work. Of course, these things happen from time to time :)

I continue walking and come across this mural on Reşitefendi Street. Where three different designs are beautifully intertwined work created in 2017 by a Turkish collective called Writer Material Crew, composed of three artists named Brot, Blek and Odin.

I would like to explain the two murals in the photo of the article one by one:

Made by Polish artist M-City, this mural is my favorite in my neighborhood. This piece, which depicts a futuristic extraterrestrial invasion, has such strong, clean lines that I adore. For a mural, quite imaginative. M-City produced this piece in 2014, and it was chosen as one of the top 20 murals worldwide.

This work by Sepe and Chazme (both Polish) was also made in 2015. It is one of those works that make sense as you watch it.

Similar to architectural photography, huge mural photography benefits from using a wider lens. A drone would make it possible for us to view the artwork from eye level, just like at exhibitions. Wouldn't that be fantastic? I used a Sony A7SIII camera with the widest lens I own, a 24mm Samyang f/2.8.

There are about 7-8 more murals that I haven't photographed yet. I will publish them as the second and last post of this series.

Yaşadığım mahalle mural sanatı meraklıları için bir cennet.

Tabii ki bu güzel durumu Kadıköy Belediyesi ve Mural İstanbul'un yıllardır festivali ortaklaşa düzenlemesine borçluyuz. Kadıköy'de bu mural festivali 2012-2019 yılları arasında yedi kez gerçekleşti. On yedi farklı ülkeden otuz dokuz sanatçı duvarları boyayarak bölgemize renk kattı.

Fintan Magee bu eseri Misaki Milli Caddesi ile Nakil Caddesi'nin kesiştiği noktada. Duvar resminin tasarımı son derece gerçekçi ve insanların taşıdığı kovaları yorumlamaya çalışınca çok farklı manalar çıkabilir diye düşünüyorum. Tam bana göre bir iş. Avustralyalı mural sanatçısı Fintan Magee dünya çapında tanınıyor. Bu apartmanın duvarını süsleyen sanat eseri 2017 yılında boyandı ve neredeyse 7 yıldır orada duruyor. Kırmızı Kuşak Sokak'ta yer alan bu gerçekçi portre, Zagreb'de yaşayan Hırvat sanatçı Lonac tarafından yapılmıştır. Lonac bu duvar resmini 2018 yılında İstanbul'daki yaptı. Bu eylemi gerçekleştirdiği için mutluyum.

Bu noktada, bir apartman duvarında 12 yıl boyunca bir tablo bulundurmanın olumsuz özelliklerinden bahsedelim. Örneğin yukarıda gördüğünüz duvar resmi birkaç yıl öncesine kadar çok güzel görünüyordu. Alman sanatçı Dome tarafından 2012 yılında boyanmıştı. Anladığım kadarıyla alışılmadık çizgileriyle Nuh'un Gemisi'nin bir yorumuydu. Ne yazık ki - fotoğrafta da görebileceğiniz gibi - apartmanın tadilatı bu güzel eseri mahvetmiş. Tabii ki zaman zaman böyle şeyler olabiliyor :)

Yürümeye devam ediyorum ve Reşitefendi Caddesi'nde bu duvar resmine rastlıyorum. Brot, Blek ve Odin adlı üç sanatçıdan oluşan Writer Material Crew adlı bir Türk kolektifi tarafından 2017 yılında yaratılan üç farklı tasarımın iç içe geçtiği güzel bir çalışma.

Polonyalı sanatçı M-City tarafından yapılan bu duvar resmi mahallemdeki favorim. Fütüristik bir dünya dışı istilayı tasvir eden bu eser, stil sahibi ve temiz çizgilere sahip. Bir duvar resmi için oldukça yaratıcı. M-City bu eseri 2014 yılında üretti ve o yıl dünya çapında en iyi 20 murallardan biri olarak seçilmişti.

Ne yazık ki, alan sınırlamaları nedeniyle fotoğrafın sol alt kısmını göremiyoruz.

Mimari fotoğrafçılığa benzer şekilde, bu büyük duvar resimlerini fotoğraflarken daha geniş bir lens kullanmak faydalı olacaktır. Bir drone, tıpkı sergilerde olduğu gibi, sanat eserini göz hizasından görmemizi mümkün kılacaktır. Bu imkan müthiş olurmuş :) Bu fotoğrafları çekerken sahip olduğum en geniş lens olan 24mm Samyang f/2.8 ile bir Sony A7SIII fotoğraf makinesi kullandım.

Henüz fotoğraflamadığım yaklaşık 7-8 duvar resmi daha var. Onları da bu serinin ikinci ve son yazısı olarak yayınlayacağım.
