I love foggy days.
For our ancestors who lived tens of thousands of years ago, this natural phenomenon can be frightening, in fact there are many old proverbs in my native Turkish language about the danger of fog. One of them, and the most well-known, is that the wolf loves foggy weather. The meaning of the proverb is that bad people take advantage of the confusion to achieve their goals. So fog is evil, unknowable and dangerous.
But never for me living in 2024 Istanbul :)
In fact, since we rarely have the chance to see this natural phenomenon in Istanbul, it seems cute and attractive to me.
Especially if I have my camera with me :)
Sisli günleri severim.
On binlerce yıl önce yaşamış atalarımız için bu doğa olayı korkutucu olabilir, aslında ana dilim Türkçede sisin tehlikesi hakkında birçok eski atasözü var. Bunlardan biri olan ve en bilineni şudur: Kurt sisli havayı sever. Atasözünün anlamı, kötü insanların amaçlarına ulaşmak için karışıklıktan yararlandıklarıdır. Yani sis kötüdür, bilinemez ve tehlikelidir.
Ama 2024 İstanbul'unda yaşayan benim için asla :)
Aslında bu doğa olayını İstanbul'da nadiren görme şansımız olduğu için bana sevimli ve çekici geliyor.
Özellikle de fotoğraf makinem yanımdaysa :)

On Thursday, I was traveling by ferry from the Asian side of Istanbul to the European side to photograph the exhibition opening and opening night performance of some friends. The fog I saw on the Bosphorus excited me a bit and I went out to the outside of the ferry to get some exposure of Istanbul and took these photos on this journey that lasted about 20 minutes. I love adding grain to wide angle city photos on foggy days. The fog, black and white combined with the grain effect creates a strange sense of melancholy.
Perşembe günü bir kaç dostumun sergi açılışı ve açılış gecesi performansını fotoğraflamak için İstanbul'un asya yakasından avrupa yakasına doğru vapurla yolculuk ediyordum. Boğaz'da gördüğüm sis beni biraz heyecanlandırdı ve İstanbul'u biraz pozlamak için vapurun dış kısmına çıkıp yaklaşık 20 dakika süren bu yolculukta bu fotoğrafları çektim. Sisli günlerde geniş açı şehir fotoğraflarına grain eklemeye bayılıyorum. Sis, siyah beyaz ve grain efekti ile birleşince tuhaf bir melankoli duygusu yaratıyor.

I shot all the photos with the Sony A7SIII camera, using the Samyang 24mm and Sony FE 50mm lenses. I edited them with Adobe Lightroom and added the exposure values below the photos. I hope you like them.
