Puerta Caracas

Caracas is a city like any other, with many places to discover.

On one occasion when I needed to cross the city from the west to the north, we went up from Catia taking advantage of the high roads of La Pastora.

It was a truly fascinating road for me, I felt like a tourist in my city and suddenly we got out of the vehicle and I found myself in the middle of a photo shoot.

The corner of Puerta Caracas that I show you in this photo is a very nice popular neighborhood, right where I'm standing you can take public transportation, so the place is accessible.

Its inhabitants know that they are in a very interesting place and they make an effort to enrich its emblematic points and that's why we can find murals like this one.

From this portal begins the journey through the path of the Spaniards, which is a way that opened the conquerors through the mountain to get from the sea in La Guaira and thus discovered the valley of Caracas.

But another important event also happened here, because at the time of the war of independence, the Spaniards captured and killed the patriot José Félix Ribas and exposed his head boiled in oil in this place.

This monument was erected as a tribute to this independence hero who was used by the Spaniards to punish anyone who dared to go against the crown in favor of the independence fighters.

I knew this story since I was a child because Ribas led one of the most important battles, the Battle of La Victoria, but I never thought that this day I was going to know about this monument and this iconic place.

The last thing we did in Puerta Caracas was to have a beer, with my husband, our friend Euri, and I, but I didn't take any pictures of the beer, so I better say goodbye with this postcard.

It was a great surprise for me to find in my city a place very worthy of sharing and telling a little bit of its history and I am sure that in all the cities of the world, we will find places with importance and relevance, that mean something, that tell us stories, that are witnesses of events.

For that reason, this community Pinmapple has a great space among us, because it gives space to these discoveries to make them visible to all of us.

When you're walking around your city, don't waste time like I usually do, looking at my phone while I'm on the road. Look up and receive the gift of new perspectives and a gaze that brings you something new every day.

Caracas es una ciudad como cualquier otra, con muchísimos lugares por descubrir.

En una oportunidad en la que necesitaba atravesar la ciudad desde el oeste hasta el norte, subimos desde Catia aprovechando los caminos altos de La Pastora.

Fue un camino verdaderamente fascinante para mí, me sentí como una turista en mi ciudad y de pronto nos bajamos del vehículo y me encuentre en medio de una sesión de fotos.

La esquina de Puerta Caracas que les muestro en esta foto es una barriada popular muy bonita, justo donde estoy parada se puede tomar el transporte público, así que el lugar resulta accesible.

Sus habitantes saben que están en un sitio muy interesante y se esfuerzan por enriquecer sus puntos emblemáticos y por eso podemos encontrar murales como este.

A partir de este portal comienza la travesía por el camino de los españoles, (este día comprendí que primero fue el camino de los aborígenes, la ruta ya estaba hecha por ellos) que es una vía que abrieron (se creía que los conquistadores) atravesando la montaña para llegar desde el mar en La Guaira y así descubrieron el valle de Caracas.

Pero aquí también ocurrió otro acontecimiento importante, porque en la época de la guerra de independencia, los españoles capturaron y acabaron con la vida del patriota José Félix Ribas y expusieron su cabeza hervida en aceite en este lugar.

Este monumento se erigió en homenaje a ese prócer de la independencia que fue usado por los españoles para escarmentar a todo el que se atreviera a ir en contra de la corona en favor de los independentistas.

Yo conocía esta historia desde niña porque Ribas lideró una de las batallas más importantes, la batalla de la Victoria, pero jamás pensé que este día iba a conocer este monumento y este icónico lugar.

Lo último que hicimos en Puerta Caracas fue tomarnos una cerveza, mi esposo, nuestro amigo Euri y yo, pero no tomé ninguna foto de la cerveza, así que mejor me despido con esta postal.

Fue una gran sorpresa para mí encontrar en mi ciudad un lugar muy digno de compartir y de contar un poco su historia y estoy segura de que en todas las ciudades del mundo encontraremos sitios con importancia y relevancia, que significan algo, que nos cuentan relatos, que son testigos de acontecimientos.

Por ese motivo, esta comunidad Pinmapple tiene un espacio grandioso entre nosotros, porque da cabida a estos descubrimientos para hacerlos visibles para todos nosotros.

Cuando andes por tu ciudad, no desperdicies el tiempo como suelo hacerlo yo, mirando el teléfono mientras voy en el camino. Levanta la mirada y recibe el regalo de nuevas perspectivas y una mirada que te traiga algo nuevo cada día.
