I n the cathedral Aachen

avatar

For today I have a few photos from Aachen Cathedral, built between 796 and 805. The octagonal Palatine Chapel is one of the finest examples of Carolingian-Romanesque architecture, and oldest in Europe about 1978, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Germany. Famous for the shrine of the virgin Mary, the throne of Charlemagne and more other precious artifacts.

Unbelievable photos!!

Whenever I visit those unesco sites, the history and time really hit different.

Reminds me of my trip to Malta 🇲🇹 and a few of the churches and cathedrals. They are a deeply religious people and so many different leaders from conquering countries over the centuries.

Now I have 2 reasons to visit Aachen. A beer with @detlev and some unesco visiting!
