Hive Philippines Street Photography #472 - by Allmonitors
#472 - Monochrome of the day.
How's it going my fellow Hiveans? Before noon today the northern part of the country felt an almost two minute quake with an astonishing magnitude of 7.3 which we thought our end already while we were at home. The hanging lights and kitchen utensils were moving and swaying,we are glad that no visible damage was found at the house of my mother in law. I even asked or shouted at my son which was downstairs to duck and cover while the shaking was intense while me and my wife are upstairs bracing for any possible impact. Then after a few minutes people are already sharing online their experiences and some even showing videos of damages to their house, their surroundings. The quake trended in Twitter Philippines and everyone has their horrible experience today, this month also is the same month a great quake struck Baguio way back in 1990 when I was still in Grade 1. My memory is still vivid that time when we ran out of the class room straight to the open field for shelter. I wish those affected will have the help needed for them to recover fast.
That's a quick story that I wanted to share today and now moving on to our photos of the day which is is black and white and were taken still in the city of pines. Soon I will walk the streets of Marikina once again to take street shots here too. This one shows a taho vendor which is blocked by the sign saying that this is where rented bikes are supposed to be and not beyond the barricade. There is also a woman beside the vendor who is probably buying his sweet fresh soft tofu.
Then we got here a famous fastfood brand which is located on the second floor of this Veniz hotel. I believe my wife tried to book us in this hotel but when she saw the accomodations price she looked for cheaper ones which are still near Session road. There are several people in the fastfood near the window atleast. We haven't tried eating here yet even though we're here several times in this city already. We prefer the local restaurants which offer same price and have vegetables dishes in their menus.
I was following this man wearing a Levi's denim jacket which is most of the time the attire of men who are locals here. They love wearing the brand pair it with blue jeans and also cowboy boots which even women use. Those walking on the left are probably all tourists.
A convenience store in front of the park which also sells a lot of eggs. They still have several trays of eggs in different sizes left for order. I myself love eggs, we always buy a tray every now and then and we pick the brown eggs which are healthier than the white. Then fry some every other morning. Sometimes I add tiny chops of bitter gourd which I have been eating since I was a kid, my mother always do it when we were kids and that is our viand before going to school in the morning. My parents don't have much back then so only one viand is enough. Fried egg with bitter gourd kept us going and that's one thing I kept in mind and treasure it up to the end.
A man is in the cover of these thick plants while he enjoy his meal which is on a plastic disposable. He is also mindful of his surroundings while he chow down. This is actually a very thrifty approach which can save him a lot instead of going to an eatery or restaurant and spend a good amount of cash.
Follow me on my street travels.
Shot taken in Baguio City, Philippines.
The earthquake a while ago is quite strong, the earthquake happened in 1990 was also the same month as now. It's July as well. My parents always keep telling us that story.
