El Castillo San Carlos de Borromeo está ubicado frente a la Bahía de Pampatar, en el centro histórico de Pampatar.
Su función era la de proteger al Puerto, la aduana y las Salinas de Pampatar contra los ataques de Piratas y corsarios de la época. Estos eran el azote de todas las poblaciones costeras en el Mar Caribe y asechaban constantemente a la Isla de Margarita.

The San Carlos de Borromeo Castle is located in front of the Bay of Pampatar, in the historic center of Pampatar.

He tenido la dicha de recorrer estos espacios casi en soledad... recibiendo la energía, fuerza e inspiración que alli se respira. Sentarme en los muros del Castillo a esperar ver algún barco de los piratas que andaban al asecho.. Les aviso si los veo!!!! Alli pueden ver los cañones preparados para la defensa!

Pues, como no ví los barcos de los piratas, aproveché para meditar y reflexionar.. y nuevamente la musa me visitó:

vigía de Margarita en el mar,
protegiendo la isla del asedio
de corsarios que amenazaban su paz.
Sus muros de piedra y cañones de bronce,
testigos de heroicas batallas,
defendieron la tierra con valentía y constancia,
haciendo temblar a los invasores con sus balas.
En su interior, Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi,
heroína de la libertad,
fue prisionera y sufrió los embates
de la injusticia y la crueldad.
Pero el Castillo no se rindió,
ni la valentía de su gente,
y hoy en día, su imagen imponente
sigue siendo parte de nuestra historia y presente.
San Carlos de Borromeo,
orgullo de nuestra patria,
tu leyenda seguirá siempre,
siendo símbolo de su lucha y de su gente.

I love reading through and looking at the photos as I am always fascinated by castles and a little bit of their history. Though its sad this one was use as a military base but still its amazing how they were still able to preserve its architecture and other remnants.
