In Venezuela, what are known as turtles are primarily known as morrocoy. It is commonly kept as a pet, and in some parts of Venezuela, a morrocoy dish is even prepared.

MORROCOYs have their skeleton attached to their shell, which gives them great resistance to predator attacks and therefore helps them conserve energy by carrying that armor. However, this makes it very difficult for them to move, and they can even die if they flip over for some reason.

En Venezuela lo que se llaman las tortugas son conocidas sobre todo esta especie como morrocoy. Es común que sea tomada como mascota e incluso en algunas partes de Venezuela se prepara un plato de morrocoy.

Los MORROCOY tienen pegada el esqueleto a su caparazón lo que les da una gran resistencia a los ataques de los depredadores y por eso que para guardar energías por cargar esa armadura, pero esto hace que les sea muy difícil movilizarse, pudiendo morir incluso si por alguna razón se voltea.

Es por esto que a la hora de perpetuar su especie, esa hora del amor es muy difícil para el macho ya que debe montarse enzima así como se ve en la foto y eso es un gran esfuerzo, pero además corren el peligro de voltearse así que deben ser como equilibristas a la hora del amor.
