Memorial of the Heroic Defence of Odesa (411th Battery)
Today I want to tell you about the memorial of the defence of the city of Odesa during the Second World War. I happened to be so far from home yesterday and decided to take advantage of my free time and photograph the exhibits I saw to tell about this place.
So, this place is officially called - "memorial of the heroic defence of Odesa (411th battery)" and it was solemnly opened on May 9, 1975, that is, 30 years after the end of the Second World War. It is dedicated to the artillery defence of the city, which during the period of placement in this area carried out about 220 combat strikes against the enemy until October 1941, after which these soldiers went to defend the city of Sevastopol.
In general, this is an open-air museum, although it is worth noting that on the territory of the park, where the exhibits are located and actually was the point of defence of the city, there is also an ordinary museum with various monuments at that time. But due to lack of time, I could not go around absolutely everything, so today the information will be exclusively about what is under the open sky.
We are met by a large concrete slab on which the name of this place is written. I hope that in the future it will be translated into Ukrainian, which is the official language in our country. But that's it, a little thing.
And after this inscription, after walking a few meters, you get to a rather large site, where a variety of equipment from the Second World War is installed. Of course, the dimensions of what I saw really surprised me. Especially what I will show first:
This is submarine A615 "M-296" - "Malyutka" (baby). Oh yes, with such dimensions it is, of course, a baby! Unfortunately, only the frame of this water conqueror remains today, but it still looks amazing! Although I have been living in Odesa for many years and have seen ships many times, I am still delighted to look at such things.
And then, along the perimeter of this site, there is practically everything that is used during hostilities - tanks, guns, howitzers, a field kitchen from the time of the Second World War, self-propelled artillery installations, samples of missiles, aeroplanes, an amphibious vehicle (both drives and floats), as well as the well-known Odesa "tank" NI-1, which is a tractor covered with armour plates and supplemented with rifle or cannon weapons. Also, there is an armoured train and a tram, which in 1941 ran along the "Odesa-Front" route. The only thing is that I couldn't photograph the tram itself because there were people there, and I didn't want to take pictures of unknown people without their consent. However, in some photos, you can see the same tram.
I'm not a big connoisseur of military equipment and I don't want to write something wrong or just copy information from Wikipedia, so next, there will be photos of exhibits with a caption, what they are, and at the end, there will even be a small bonus from this year's exhibits.
The T-34 medium tank is decorated with a children's drawing:
152mm howitzer gun:
Self-propelled artillery installation:
Tank "NI-1":
Field kitchen:
Amphibious car:
Armored train:
And then just a few more photos of the equipment, the names of which I got confused, so in order not to write wrong information, I will publish them without names. If there are people among you who know what it is, please write and I can update the post.
These, I think, are rockets, but which ones I do not know:
This is a barrel weapon, but unfortunately I did not take a picture of the plate to say exactly which one it is:
And here are the ship's guns:
And now the same bonus that I promised. New exhibits of equipment, but this time they are not samples of defence equipment, as in the photos above, but the destroyed equipment of the occupation forces, which is located next to the memorial I wrote about. This is a tank and BMP of the russian army destroyed in battle, which brought pain and loss to my country. However, they were beautifully painted by local artists and ordinary people.
Coordinates of the memorial - 46.37451, 30.72176
