The Küstendorf Cat
(Edited)
A little over twenty years ago, director Emir Kusturica built an entire village in western Serbia for his film Life Is a Miracle. He named it Küstendorf (also known as Drvengrad or Mećavnik). Last May, my wife and I visited this fascinating place, which has long since become a popular tourist attraction. While wandering around, I noticed a cat watching us.

Well, of course, the cat wasn’t actually watching us. We had simply disturbed his nap.

So we caught him right in the middle of a yawn.

It would’ve been a sin not to take a few photos of a cat in a village built by the director of the cult comedy Black Cat, White Cat.

As we were leaving, the cat stuck out his tongue at us. It was an unusual gesture, to say the least.

And yes, all of this happened on the steps of this very house, on Ernesto Che Guevara Street. Every street in Küstendorf is named after a famous figure (mostly filmmakers). But that’s a story for another time.

Thanks for stopping by my Caturday! 😸
