Around the Pond
(Edited)
The best recipe for a resort walk is simple — no fixed destination, just a route that unfolds on its own.
In the heart of Zlatibor, there’s a place where this principle works effortlessly — Zlatibor Lake, though locals simply call it «the pond». In essence, it’s a decorative lake with fountains, framed by a wide promenade. It’s easy to walk here at any pace: slowly and without hurry, or at a brisk, almost power-walking stride. Tall pines rise all around, and the air feels just a touch cooler than in the rest of town.

A row of small pavilions and kiosks lines the waterfront, offering everything from ice cream and coffee to souvenirs and children’s activities.

At the far end, the promenade opens onto a large square where concerts and performances are held. The place is clearly full of life, yet it never loses its calm, easygoing atmosphere.

The pond itself is neatly set in the town center, though it didn’t always look this way. It was created in the mid-20th century, when a marshy lowland was transformed into a small lake, and a walking path gradually formed around its shores. For decades, it remained a quiet spot for unhurried strolls.

That changed in recent years, when both the shoreline and the basin underwent a full renovation. A smooth stone promenade was built, along with comfortable benches and a modern fountain system.

Tiny water jets are set into the railings around the pond, occasionally releasing thin streams of water, and the whole area feels like it’s breathing freshness — something you especially appreciate on hot days.

Today, the pond has rightfully become one of Zlatibor’s defining symbols.

So a walk like this really doesn’t need a destination. It’s all about a quiet calm and that unhurried resort atmosphere people come here for. And the route simply unfolds on its own: step by step, along the water, among the trees and the soft murmur of fountains.
Thanks for joining me on this walk.
