Today I want to share with you an experience I had at the rafting pioneers’ camp in Barinas, called Arassari Trek.

My friends and I were staying at this place when we ran into a group of tourists who had come from Caracas.

They had planned to go rafting on the river the next day, and with great vibes, they invited us to join their trip.

Honestly, my friends and I didn’t think twice and signed up for the adventure.

💦 La travesía: "The trip:"

To be honest, this was an experience that completely pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’m not a very strong swimmer, so getting into the river felt like a real risk. However, we were well prepared—with helmets, life jackets, and guidance from an instructor who explained how to handle any unexpected situation.

My favorite photo (me looking scared out of my mind while everyone else is smiling haha).

During the trip, I discovered a completely different way to see the river. I had always watched it from the shore, but being in it, letting myself go with the current, seeing the trees, fish, and birds from that perspective... it was incredible. A mix of excitement, adrenaline, and pure connection with nature.

I fell into the water, laughed a lot, felt scared, but also felt a lot of support. My friends were there the whole time. After the first hour, I was calmer and managed to enjoy the moment more, even though the physical effort it takes is considerable.

Final feliz: hambre, arepas y descanso. "Happy ending: hunger, arepas, and rest"

By the time we reached the end of the trip, my body was completely worn out. I was starving. I ate three arepas — and believe me, that says a lot.

For those who aren’t from Venezuela, an arepa is a typical dish made from corn, very versatile and delicious. I’ll share a photo here so you can get an idea.

Tips if you’re up for this adventure: I totally recommend this activity. It’s one of those experiences many people dream of doing at least once in their life. If you decide to take the plunge into the current, here are some tips:
  • 👕 Wear clothes that protect you from the sun, preferably long-sleeved and lightweight.
  • 🧴 Use sunscreen—even if you’re in the water, the sun doesn’t forgive.
  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Go accompanied. With friends or family, everything is more enjoyable.
  • 🛏️ Stay overnight at the camp. At Arassari Trek, there are comfy cabins, cooking areas, or if you prefer, they can prepare your meals. Everything is very cozy!

🌍 Un destino recomendado incluso para turistas extranjeros. "A recommended destination even for foreign tourists..."

I can honestly tell you it’s worth doing. For a while, many foreigners came here to do this activity since the river is considered one of the best in the country for rafting thanks to its wild waters.

🎒 Una experiencia para recordar "An experience to remember"

Although this adventure happened in 2022, it’s still one of the most daring and memorable I’ve ever had.
Not just because of the adrenaline, but because of everything you feel being so connected to nature, friends, and yourself.

That is one of my dreams to do water rafting. the only thing that made me think of not doing it is that I don't know how to swim. That looks fun and totally an adrenaline rush adventure, especially if the water currents are strong. I am glad that you enjoyed it. 🙂
