Ribadouro - Lamego Castle | Portugal

Hello everyone :)

The tour continues through the most recent discovery, right in the north of this small country full of magical, genuine and history-filled corners.
The final stretch of this session began at one of the highest points in the city, where among some of the most interesting places we visited is the small but beautiful Lamego Castle, located in a privileged position and perfectly integrated into the surrounding area.

According to historical records, this small fortification comprising a central turret and defensive walls was built during the 12th century, also with the aim of protecting this important region from Muslim invasions, in a period of history full of battles and territorial conquests.
Like practically all the fortifications spread across the country, this one also underwent several structural interventions and served several purposes over the years, from serving as a residence for local nobles, passing through as an administrative center and even a shelter for troops and weapons.
Nowadays and after several restorations that aimed to maintain its architectural and historical value, in addition to being a cultural and tourist center of the city, it serves as a stage for various cultural events and even exhibitions.
We had the opportunity and privilege to witness one of these events during our visit, where a play was being presented, rehearsed and presented by a local acting school.

Next to the castle, on a lower level, it is possible to access a small garden delimited by a "balcony" that gives us an absolutely breathtaking view over the western part of the city.

To get to the Castle we had to rely on the strength of our legs that took us on a kind of city climb through narrow and winding alleys to the top of the summit.
Along the way, we are presented with an architecture that takes us back in time.

After this stop at the top of the hill, the route will go downhill with occasional stops at equally interesting places that i have reserved for what will be the last article about this place.
As almost always, when we do some research on the place we are describing, we end up discovering new places of interest and which for some reason, mainly due to lack of time, ended up going unnoticed but which, without a doubt, deserved an extra effort to be portrayed as part of that same location.

It's not the first time it's happened and it certainly won't be the last, in fact, i remember mentioning this situation in a previous article and writing that i would start doing research in advance before visiting a place.... but it happened again! :P
And by that, i mean that one day i will certainly have to return to do a more comprehensive coverage, and i can say that in this case i will be happy, because in fact the city is surprising and quite welcoming.

That's all for today, i hope you liked it.

Thank you again for watching :)

Always remember:

Value your time, because every fraction counts, and the price of anything is the amount of life you trade for it.
May the memories of the travels be eternalized in the photographs, and may the photographs transport us back to the travels ;)
