How I learned English in 6 month?//¿Cómo aprendí inglés en 6 meses?

Several of us, if not all of us, at some point in our lives, have been interested in learning a language 💬📚. Get to know the culture of other regions, the undeniable work and/or academic opportunities that may appear, read a certain book in its original version 📖, watch our favorite series without annoying translations 📺, or simply learn about certain topics for which there are greater volumes of explanations and bibliography in a certain language.

📌 In today post, I would like to tell you how I learned English and the resources I used at that time. If you are learning another language, don't worry, because this post will also be useful to you when I tell you about a website that I discovered and still use it to learn other languages and practice English. During the recent difficult global period, COVID-19, in quarantine, I learned English in six months. In the initial phase I used two great books focused on level A1-A2 (levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is the international standard that defines linguistic competence) by the University of Cambridge. I downloaded both books, the Vocabulary one and the Grammar one, from a Telegram channel called "English Learning Program" (If your level of English is a little higher than beginner, or you want to take it to intermediate, visit that channel, as they also have with preparation books for intermediate and advanced). First I studied the 60 lessons from the vocabulary book and then the 115 from the grammar book. At that time I looked for tutorials on YouTube on how to pronounce English phonemes and I always tried to imitate all the sounds I heard.

Having learned the basics of the language was of great help when taking the next step... looking for language partners. For me, the idea of being able to speak in English with people was fantastic. At first, it sounded a little far away, but it was possibly faster than I imagined. In my search for language partners, I came across the fact that several platforms and/or applications are paid, and many others are blocked for Cuba. But one day I was lucky enough to find "Language Exchange" and I have been using it for 3 or 4 years now. Basically on this website you create a profile (like we do on Instagram or Facebook) and we put which languages we speak at a native level in my case Spanish, and we add the languages that we are interested in learning or practicing, in my case at the beginning it was only the English (now there are more of them 😅)... the page recommends people who are in the opposite situation (natives in our target language and training their Spanish). The platform also suggests group language exchanges on other platforms such as zoom, telegram, etc. This is probably my most important advice in this post, 👉 contact natives and speak even if you make mistakes initially, even if you progress very slowly, but this is what will make the difference... being able to think in the language and communicate with people 👈...

Varios de nosotros, para no decir todos en algún momento de nuestras vidas, nos ha interesado aprender algún idioma 💬📚. Conocer la cultura de otras regiones, las innegables oportunidades laborales y/o académicas que pueden aparecer, leer determinado libro en su versión original 📖, ver nuestras series preferidas sin las molestas traducciones 📺, o sencillamente aprender sobre determinados temas de los cuales hay mayores volúmenes de explicaciones y bibliografía en determinado idioma.

📌 En el post de hoy me gustaría comentarles como fue que aprendí inglés y los recursos que usé en aquel momento, si estás aprendiendo otro idioma no te preocupes, pues también te será de utilidad el post cuando te comente una página que descubrí y aún uso para aprender otros idiomas y practicar el inglés. Durante el reciente y difícil periodo global, la COVID-19, en la cuarentena, yo aprendí inglés en seis meses. En la fase inicial usé dos grandiosos libros enfocados en nivel A1-A2(niveles según el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las lenguas (MCER) que es el estándar internacional que define la competencia lingüística) por la Universidad de Cambridge. Ambos libros, el de Vocabulario y el de Gramática, los descargué de un canal en Telegram llamado "English Learning Program" (Si tu nivel de inglés es un poco mayor que principiante o lo quieres llevar a intermedio, visita ese canal, pues también cuentan con libros de preparación para intermedio y avanzado). Primero me estudié las 60 lecciones del libro de vocabulario y luego las 115 del libro de gramática. En aquel tiempo busqué tutoriales en YouTube sobre como pronunciar los fonemas del inglés y trataba de imitar siempre todos los sonidos que oía.

Haber aprendido las bases del idioma, fue de gran ayuda a la hora de dar el siguiente paso... buscar compañeros de idiomas. Para mí era fantástica la idea de poder hablar en inglés con las personas, al inicio sonaba un poco lejano de alcanzar, pero fue posible más rápido de lo que imagine. En mi búsqueda de compañeros de idiomas choqué con que varias plataformas y/ aplicaciones son de pago y muchas otras están bloqueadas para cuba. Pero un día tuve la suerte de encontrar "Lenguage Exchage" y ya hace 3 o 4 años que la utilizo. Básicamente en este sitio web te creas un perfil (como mismo lo hacemos en Instagram o Facebook) y ponemos que idiomas hablamos a nivel nativo, en mi caso Español y agregamos los idiomas que nos interesa aprender o practicar, en mi caso al inicio era solo el Inglés (ahora son más 😅)... la página nos recomienda personas que están en la situación contraria(nativos en nuestro idioma objetivo y entrenando su español). También la plataforma te sugiere intercambios de idioma grupal en otras plataformas como Zoom, Telegram, etcétera. Este probablemente sea mi consejo más importante de este post... 👉 contacta con nativos y habla, aunque cometas errores inicialmente, aunque avances muy despacio, pero esto es lo que marcara la diferencia... el poder pensar en el idioma y comunicarse 👈...
