Snowy day in Belgrade | Street photography

20230120-DSCF9201.jpg

The long awaited snow has finally fallen over Belgrade. The best feeling is when you wake up to an unexpected white landscape. As soon as I looked through the window I immediately packed quickly and headed towards the city.

It wasn't that strong when I got there but as time went by it turned into a blizzard. The city streets, wet from the previous day of rain, still weren't covered in white so I first went to the Kalemegdan fortress - easier to retain the snow cover in the park.

There is not many people in the park this early in the morning on a week day so I had to wait at certain spots which I found interesting for someone to appear. You know as a street photographer I always try to making the full scene by adding human element. :) I even did a short Tai Chi practice in the snow - so fun!

As I go back to crowded streets there's a real snow storm happening. You can see in the later photos that the white speckles fill the view. I'm lucky that the autofocus is doing a great job and snapping perfectly on the target. I'm also using shallow depth of field which separates the subject nicely. When I look for the perfect person for the composition in these conditions it's normally someone with dark clothes, with a dark umbrella or in colors that stand out, like reds and blues. It's all about the contrast with the background.

When you are excited and engaged in the activity you don't even feel the cold, even though my gloves are wet, same as the camera. But the two batteries are empty so I have to call it a day. Hope you enjoy the photos! Taken with Fuji X-Pro2 and 35mm F/2.

Hvala! No doubt about it. It might be lacking in some other areas, but for streets it's perfect. :)

Seeing snow, finally 😍 🌨️🌨️🌨️

Yes, that is true, that waking up to unexpected white landscape is a great feeling (I try to imagine if that would happen here... It would be equal to impossible so I should stop imagining hahaha)

The batteries get empty quicker when it is cold, if I understand well? My knowledge about photography is almost at the same level as snowing in a coastal town in Spain, but I still enjoy a lot this snowy scenery from Belgrade and Kalemegdan through your post. Thank you 🌨️👋

It brings back the childhood memories when we used to run outside as soon as we saw the falling snow. :) It's the one reason why it would be hard for me to move to the tropics haha.

You might be right about the batteries although I personally haven't noticed a significant difference. They served me well that day. :)

Snow has its charms, and it triggers emotions in both young children and people who have already grown up.
Especially waking up and finding the whole landscape white!
After all, with snow, we all become a little bit of a child again!

Love the feel of these photographs man. Great job! That snow didn't stop, didn't it ey? haha :D So many flakes, it must have been a challenge to get shots like these so sharp.

Thanks, Ruben! It was falling heavily, although just for one day. Few times the focus would land on the snowflakes but most of the time it snapped on the subjects perfectly. Gotta love my Fuji. :)
