Photographing crazy weather from the rooftop

20210213-DSCF4451.jpg

As you know, Hivers, my photography hobby usually takes me downtown, to the streets of Belgrade. I thought this time I'll share a selection of photos I took without leaving the house, from my terrace and the rooftop. We are located in suburbs, in a plain land where people mostly live in small houses.

I'm not always inspired to take photographs of the neighborhood but interesting cloud formations and crazy weather make me take the camera out from time to time. Anything from ominous clouds to fiery sunsets, winter frosts to summer rainbows.

Really dramatic skies have always intrigued me, overcast days that create contrast and tension in the composition. Different weather conditions produce different lighting conditions and depending on the direction of the camera surroundings can either fall into shadow or be completely lit up by the sun peaking through the clouds. Even the not-so-photogenic areas can become interesting when showered by the good light. It's up to the photographer to use the extreme conditions wisely and make one of a kind captures.

For shooting clouds it's usually the best idea to have wide angle lens on. All of the photos here are taken with Fuji X100F which has a 23mm lens attached. Unfortunately, there isn't many options for me that could serve as a foreground in these shots, which is a good thing to have in the composition to emphasize the sense of scale. A roof here and there might help a little. Anyway, these shots are always unplanned and improvised and sometimes they turn out interesting. Hope you enjoy.

These are gorgeous, I love the double rainbow and the moody sunsets. I've also been taking more photos these last few days and seem to be looking at everything as an opportunity to improve my photography.

Have an awesome Merry Christmas if you celebrate it 😉

Awesome shots, my friend. Cloud and landscape photography is another ball game! I tend to struggle to get them right. My gear is more suited for portrait photography. But sometimes driving in the countryside you see that perfect landscape photograph potential with the clouds and mountains.

I guess the light up north (?) is also better suited. When I visited Europe (I am from South Africa) I found that the lighting is much better for photography. The light here is so sharp I. Even having the shutter at 1/8000 and f stop 1.8 the lighting is still too bright.

Nonetheless, stunning shots!

Thank you! Yes, I've noticed throughout your posts a uniform bright light. :D Well, what can you do, use the best of what you have. Having weather changing constantly helps to add variety and I normally prefer overcast days.
Landscape photography can be fun, when done in moderation. :D

All in moderation!

I am glad that you could see the lighting in my photographs like that! It means my theory is not too whacky haha.

Have a splendid new year and I hope you and your family will be blessed!
