Invisible horizons

Another misty morning in Belgrade. This time I headed over to Zemunski Kej, which is a promenade along the right Danube bank. I anticipated the foggy conditions will work well with the still vastness of the river and I wasn't wrong. I got there around 7:30am ready to capture this cinematic mood.

The quay is a home to many "Splavs", which are sort of a floating barges/restaurants on the river (popular spots for Serbian nightlife) and also many cafes on the shore. Alongside the walking path you can find kids' playgrounds and basketball courts. Near the end of the quay there's a Gardoš tower, which is significant historical monument built by Hungarians at the turn of the century to celebrate thousand years since their arrival to Panonian plain. The 360 viewpoint from the top gives a beautiful overview of entire city of Belgrade.

Near the river, there aren't many visitors this early in the morning. Occasional fisherman or passerby can be seen but the star of the show are the feathered creatures. Beautiful swans and occasional goose are always near the shore, gliding through the water and waiting for treats from good-natured visitors, while the flock of seagulls circles the area, following the lone boat riders as they disappear on the horizon.

In the distance - the river and sky meet together and you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. Everything is covered in thick haze. The whole place had an apocalyptic feeling, as if the live we knew was gone and signs of life are hard to find. A prophecy or not, time will tell. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Another wonderful mood you captured!! I couldnt get enough of those misty autumn mornings:)
I love the shot with the woman on the bike, the surroundings give her some character as if shes just coming out of a book/story..
Is it hard to get up that early in the morning, but then after you happy you did it? Or are you an early person anyway?

Thank you very much! I used to be a night owl but changed it in the last few years. It's all about the mindset - when you enjoy what you are doing, waking up early is easy and even exciting, like when we were kids. :)
Everything is so peaceful in the morning, plenty of time to reflect, dedicate time to yourself and go on nice walks.

I completely agree with you, the quiet and slowness of the mornings is a beautiful thing, as if there is some magic to many places and things that havent been used, visited or seen in that very day... I like the comparing to when we where kids, never tought of it in that way, but yes!! :)

These are moody and edgy and have so much personality to them. I love the eerie feel, definitely apocalyptic and quite sinister in nature.

I've never been to belgrade but this section sounds quite lively normally. Must be a nice place to visit.

There was definitely an eerie and warning feeling in the air with those dark conditions and limited view.
Belgrade is worth visiting, primarily for it's culture and warm citizens who like to have fun. :)

You captured that feeling perfectly! I would love to see Belgrade and learn more about the area, I have very little travel experience so it'll go on my wish list.

What spectacular photos, it really looks like a movie set from those horror movies but at the same time it is beautiful and incredible those phenomena of nature where there is no difference between what is real and what is not, really incredible, congratulations

Middle earth feeling is something that's always in the back of my mind when I create photos, so thanks! :D Let's just hope it doesn't completely turn into Mordor haha.

Nice shots! I lived in Belgrade in 2018 and I went to this place in the summer! Such a different landscape. The weather changes everything.
