From Dawn Till Dusk | Two Belgrade Photo Stories

Let's continue where we left off, shall we? :) I have too sets of photographs for you this time. As mentioned in one of the previous posts, I wanted to photograph the sunrise from the Kalemegdan fortress and I missed it by 5 minutes. It was still a beautiful sight, although the light was a bit too strong and I don't own any filters to maximize the dynamic range. There's a phone capture of how my street looks like at 5am. :D

I honestly don't like HDR effect on my photos - it's when shadows are raised completely and highlights reduced so that all parts of the image are equally exposed and visible. But it was kind of necessary in this case, I didn't have a lot of options due to the composition and shooting directly at the sun.

City is covered in thick fog which adds another layer of depth to the images. The park is empty at 6am, only few people with dogs and a couple extending their partying from last night. Spoiler alert: one of the next episodes will explore the "ghost town" which is what a big city turns into this early in the morning. :)

Later that day

In the evening I went for another photo walk - this time the city is alive and buzzing. I was at the main pedestrian street of Knez Mihailo and the surrounding area, playing around with warm and cool tones. Didn't get any spectacular shots, more of a visual exploration and practicing. There's a lot of trial and error with street photography, a lot of components need to come together so patience and discipline is crucial.

What a different experience the same streets give out depending on the time of day! At night, the play of artificial light sources creates a symphony of contrasts, from the warm glow of streetlamps to the cool spectrum of light coming from the storefronts. Many faces of the city, it's why street photography is everchanging and fun.

Few days later...

(today) I arrived on time for my imagined composition, but as you can see the sun was swallowed by the clouds and there was no fog. But I could recover much more details on the foreground. That's all for now. :)
