Attack of the Birds! | Street Photo Walk

Let's preface this by mentioning that I watched "The Birds", a cult Hitchcock's film for the first time on Friday. If you are not familiar with this classic, it tells a story about birds coming together and taking attacks on people of a secluded place. What motivates them to suddenly become antagonistic towards humans is unknown yet their brutal offense is horrifying and drives people to shut themselves in their homes and seal the exits.

It might be the fact that as humans, we care less and less about the environment and ecosystem and we need a wake up call. The way we treat animals and natural world around us leads us to a bleak future. The fact that the earth would transform into a majestic, heavenly place if no humans where around is both mind blowing and sad.

Anyway, with the scenes from the film still vivid in my memory, I almost had a deja vu today at the Zemun quay, a promenade alongside Danube river. I've shared few times about this place, it's known for the gathering of all types of different birds, swans, geese, seagulls... Across the river is "Veliko ratno ostrvo" or Big war island, a natural habitat for hundreds of bird species.

The birds are so numerous that it must be hard for each one to find food to eat. That's where good Samaritans come to help, caring people will bring food and throw it around and the birds will circle them and frantically fight for it. I don't remember ever seeing them as feisty as they were today.

It was worth it getting out the house on this freezing winter morning. Photos taken with Fuji X-Pro2 + 35mm F/2 lens.
