VISIT TO THE HISTORIC "SAN CARLOS DE BORROMEO" CASTLE {ENG/ESP}
In Venezuelan education it is very important to highlight the historical places of the state where you reside. In my case, on the island of Margarita, in the top places most visited during school excursions are: 1.- The San Carlos de Borromeo castle, 2.- The Santa Rosa Castle, and finally 3.- The fort of the Galley. The reason why San Carlos de Borromeo Castle is number 1 is because of its location, since it is located in one of the most central parts of the Nueva Esparta State. It is also very important to highlight that it is the best preserved on the island. This construction many years ago was the most advanced engineering known and was built with the purpose of defending the island from pirates and buccaneers.

On this occasion I went accompanied by my friends from Hive to Margarita and we had a meeting at the place. We did some photo sessions, talked a little about some details of our progress as a community and took a short tour of the place. Our meeting point was at the top of the Castle, from where you have an incredible panoramic view of Pampatar Bay! From this height we can observe the different shades of blue of the sea and the somewhat worn structure of the entire Castle.
The entrance to the castle is quite peculiar, since to access it must be through a wooden drawbridge, which is held by chains on both sides, under the bridge there is a huge moat that surrounds the castle, its purpose when it was built was be filled with water from the beach to avoid walking to the castle, a purpose that could not be met due to a design error. The walls that surround the construction are made of stone, they are also very high and are characterized by ending in bastions.
Within the works of art we can see a painting of the flora of the "Peacemaker Don Pablo Morillo", who was an army general and history assures that upon arriving at Margarita Island he began his military and political operations where he basically demanded the liberation and peaceful seizure of the island, and this was granted to him under certain agreements.
Upon entering the castle, one of the most notable objects are the replicas of these shields located on one side of the castle entrance, which date back to 1968. Just behind the shields, there is an office where there is also a record of the visitors for many years...
The castle is surrounded by steel cannons, however, near the entrance we can see and touch long cannons with ammunition on the sides, these of course preserving an invaluable history for the castle.
Where previously, these spaces were used as defense, storage, dungeons, and shelter, it currently preserves samples of arts of everything that was, and all the secrets that this place keeps. For example, observing a hallway full of certain artistic works and priceless objects.

Outside the castle is basically the center of the castle, now fake duels are held with wooden guns, this is done carefully and has a cost for whoever wants to participate, and the castle workers cover the scene, from above you have this other view of the castle. castle looking just down.
We can also have a frame to take photographs with props from the castle, such as shields, weapons such as pistols, shotguns and others... also, the castle managers make this experience different with their advice.
From this part we had access to the towers located on the sides of the castle, also from this point we could see the cannons which had a complete row of them and were made up of approximately 12.
The biggest tourist attraction that the castle has is the wonderful view of the coast. Here you have a clear view of the sea and two important attractions in Pampatar, such as Pampatar beach and the dock where large ships and important vessels usually dock.
This structure was built; In the 17th century, this work of military architecture fulfilled the critical task of protecting the area of Pampatar. Its old cannons, already worn out by the passage of almost 400 years, still decorate the sides of the bastions, as if protecting the sea that they guarded in yesteryear.

En la educación Venezolana es muy importante resaltar los lugares históricos del estado de donde se resida. En mi caso, en la isla de Margarita, en el top de lugares más visitados bajo excursiones escolares son: 1.- El castillo San Carlos de Borromeo, 2.- El Castillo Santa Rosa, y por último 3.- El fortín de la Galera. La razón por la que el número 1 es el Castillo San Carlos de Borromeo es por su ubicación, ya que se encuentra ubicado en una de las partes más céntricas del Estado Nueva Esparta, también es muy importante destacar que es el mejor conservado en isla. Esta construcción hace muchos años fue la más avanzada ingeniería conocida y fue construida con el propósito de defender la isla de piratas y bucaneros.
En esta oportunidad me dirigí acompañada por mí amigos de Hive en Margarita y mantuvimos un encuentro en el lugar. Hicimos algunas sesiones fotográficas, hablamos un poco de algunos detalles de nuestros avances como comunidad y dimos un pequeño recorrido por el lugar. ¡Nuestro punto de encuentro fue en la parte superior del Castillo, desde donde se tiene una vista panorámica a la bahía de Pampatar increíble! Desde esta altura podemos observar los distintos tonos de azules del mar y la estructura algo gastada de todo el Castillo.
La entrada del castillo es bastante peculiar, ya que para acceder debe ser por un puente levadizo de madera, el cual se encuentra sujeto por cadenas en ambos lados, debajo del puente se encuentra una fosa enorme que rodea el castillo, su propósito al construirse era llenarse con el agua de la playa para evitar el paso a pie hacia el castillo, propósito que no se pudo cumplir por error de diseño. Los muros que rodean la construcción son hechos de piedra, también son muy altos y se caracterizan por terminar en baluartes.
El castillo está rodeado por cañones de acero, sin embargo, cerca de la entrada podemos ver y tocar unos largos cañones con municiones a los lados, estos por supuesto conservando una historia invaluable para el castillo.
Donde anteriormente, estos espacios se utilizaban como defensa, almacenamiento, calabozos, y resguardo, actualmente conserva muestras de artes de todo lo que fue, y todos los secretos que guarda este lugar. Por ejemplo, observando un pasillo lleno de ciertas obras artísticas, y objetos invaluables.
Dentro de las obras de arte podemos observar una pintura de la flora del "Pacificador Don Pablo Morillo", quien era un general del ejército y la historia asegura que al llegar a la Isla de Margarita empezó sus operaciones militares y políticas donde exigía básicamente la liberación y toma pacífica de la isla, y esta le fue concedida bajo ciertos acuerdos.
Afuera del castillo se encuentra básicamente el centro del castillo, ahora se hacen duelos falsos con pistolas de madera, esto con cuidado y tiene un costo para quien desea participar, y los trabajadores del castillo cubren la escena, desde arriba se tiene esta otra vista del castillo viendo justo hacia abajo.
También podemos contar con un cuadro para tomarse fotografías con utilería del castillo, como escudos, armas como pistolas, escopetas y otros... también de igual forma, los encargados del castillo hacen que esta experiencia sea diferente con sus asesorías.
Desde esta parte teníamos acceso a las torres ubicadas a los lados del castillo, también desde este punto podíamos observar los cañones los cuales tenían una hilera completa de ellos y estaban conformados por unos 12 aproximadamente.
El mayor atractivo turístico que tiene el castillo es la maravillosa vista a la costa, aquí se tiene una visión clara del mar y dos atractivos importantes en Pampatar como por ejemplo, playa Pampatar y el muelle donde suelen atracar grandes buques y embarcaciones importantes.
