Yellow-barred Flutterer | Ryothemis phyllis
The yellow-barred flutterer—I hadn't seen this dragonfly in a long time. A few days ago, I spotted it again during a walk close to the Meuraksa mangroves, eastern Lhokseumawe. The dragonfly had such beautifully patterned wings. I was fortunate enough to capture it at close range.
Ryothemis phyllis—the scientific name for this dragonfly—is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae, widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, the Malaysian peninsula, Singapore, and Indochina, and also found in India, China, and northern Australia.
The dragonfly is small to medium-sized. It has rather large wings and frequently flaps them during flight. This species is generally found in areas near marshes or ponds. Luckily, I didn't see any other dragonflies, so I couldn't determine whether this one was male or female.
