Hogna inops | Mangrove Wolf Spider

Hogna inops (Thorell, 1890) is a species of wolf spider belonging to the family Lycosidae. This species is distributed across parts of the Indonesian archipelago, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

I found the wolf spider as I was walking in the mangroves on the east coast of Lhokseumawe. With long, sturdy, and muscular legs, this is the fastest runner I have ever seen. We commonly spot wolf spiders along the embankments of the ponds we pass. The light brown color resembling clay allows the wolf spider to camouflage well on the ground.
