Gray Wall Jumper (Menemerus bivittatus)

I saw a gray wall jumper on the rough mossy floor this afternoon. It crawled quickly and occasionally jumped like a frog. Its hairy pedipalps vibrated violently, indicating it was highly alert to danger.

Menemerus bivittatus, commonly called the gray wall jumper, is a jumping spider belonging to the family Salticidae.

There are many jumping spiders like this in my house. They hide in the gaps in our house's wooden windows or furniture. The jumper emerges when it wishes to hunt, ambushing a line of small ants and capturing them one by one.
