Last weekend I was helping out at a partner gallery's booth at an art fair, so I took a break from writing a garden journal on Sunday. I feel somewhat restless if I don't write every week, so I decided to do so.

Today was my first full day off in a while, so I enjoyed tending to the garden while observing plants, removing old leaves, harvesting beans, and drinking tea.

It has been cool since Sunday, and the fall leafy plants are doing well ... I saw a jumbo caterpillar eating arugula. I felt sorry for him while he was eating, but I had him move on. This arugula said to be a perennial, so I wonder if it will come up again once planted...? I will see.

Besides arugula, spinach, salad, and Japanese mastered takana etc are doing well. There was one lettuce that didn't sprout at all, but that's gardening.

Some might think 'Why do you have leafy greens in cell trays like this?' It would be easy to sow directly, but after managing the community garden since spring, I found that there is a problem of too much sun depending on the position of the container, so I decided to try making seedlings this time.

It is a small balcony, but I could harvest beans for tonight's side dish, tomatoes and strawberries for my lunch tomorrow, and calendula seeds. There were about six sunflowers in bloom, so I got half of them for the table.

先週末はアートフェアでパートナーのギャラリーのブースを手伝っていたため、日曜日の庭のアップデートをお休みしました。毎週書かないとなんだか落ち着かないので、火曜日ですが書くことにしました。

今日は久しぶりに一日まるまるお休みで、子供を送り出して、植物を観察したり、古い葉っぱを取り除いたり、豆を収穫したり、お茶を飲みながら庭の手入れを楽しみました。

日曜日から涼しい日が続いていて、秋の葉物の苗が元気だな・・・と見ているとジャンボ青虫がルッコラを食べていました。食事中にかわいそうですが、移動してもらいました。このルッコラは多年草なので、一度植えたらまた出てくるのかな・・・？コミュニティーガーデン用です。

ルッコラのほかにも、ほうれん草やサラダ、高菜など順調です。ひとつだけまったく芽の出ないレタスがありましたが、失敗があるのは覚悟の上で数打つガーデニング。

「なぜこんな風にセルトレイで葉物を？」と思う人もいるかもしれません。秋冬ですし直播してしまうと楽なのですが、コミュニティーガーデンを春から管理してみて、コンテナを置く位置によってはお日様が当たりすぎるという問題があることがわかり、今回は苗を作ってみることにしました。

小さなバルコニーですが、今晩のおかずの豆がとれ、明日の子供のお弁当に入れるトマトと苺がとれ、カレンデュラの種がとれました。ひまわりが6本ほど咲いていたので、半分食卓にもらってきました。
