My two square meter garden log - 25 Jun 2023 / 2㎡の庭の記録 2023年6月25日

It was a bit busy weekend and I only took photos yesterday morning. Plants are doing good. We had the first harvest from the fava beans ... or too early harvest, as my daughter couldn't wait the harvest. That's gardening with a small child 😅

I simply cooked them in hot water and sprinkled salt. We enjoyed the taste of early summer.

I am happy to see corianders start taking off. Store bought ones are not often fresh. Even they are fresh, they aren't in the end in my fridge. Here you see a strawberry baby plant are invading the coriander field. I find them everywhere on the balcony 🍓

I must write about flowers this week. Nasturtiums grow vigorously and make flowers. My daughter is snacking the flower petals on the balcony. I will show her to decorate salad with the leaves and flowers.

I planted a pot of yellow strawflower. Since it wasn't doing so good at an organic store, so I decided to rescue it. I sometimes rescue plants and I think you may do it, don't you? (Our blue berry plant was rescued from a supermarket 😉)

Strawflowers are also beautiful when they are dried. I dry them in the kitchen on a wreath.

Dried flowers are useful not only for decorating home but also for wrapping gifts. My daughter and I made small gifts for her friends with the flowers. The red one is from the community garden I maintain.

Edible chrysanthemum flowers are finished and the plants are working on making seeds. I look forward to having my own seeds.

The last flower is Gewönliche Straußmargerite. It is from a lady who grows local plants in her garden. I got to know her at a local market and bought some plants for community garden. I got it as a present for my balcony. It is a perennial plant and will already make flower this year. I look forward to seeing the flowers.

Strawberries slow down the last days but still continuously give us fruits. My daughter and I started making a note on our calendar how many we harvested in a day. 12 strawberries is the record and we harvested so far.
