Finding Serenity in the Midst of Sickness: A Walk Through My Neighborhood

In the midst of life's constant hustle and bustle, there are moments when it all seems to converge, leaving us feeling a tad under the weather. Yesterday was one of those days when I reluctantly opened my eyes to a world colored by mild discomfort. My head ached with a persistent throb, and my throat carried the uncomfortable sensation of scratchiness.

I quickly took out a testing kit and conducted a self-administered test, fearing that I might have contracted COVID once more. Fortunately, the results provided a sigh of relief, displaying a reassuring "Negative."

It was a day when many would opt to soldier on, adhering to their daily commitments, but I chose a different path. Instead of pushing myself through the motions and trudging to my client's office, I made a conscious decision to grant myself a well-deserved reprieve by taking a sick day. From the cozy comfort of my home, I aimed to strike a balance between self-care and professional responsibilities, working remotely to ensure that my obligations were still met while prioritizing my health 😣

The Decision to Take a Walk

Working from home, I tried to focus on my tasks, but my mind kept drifting back to my cozy bed. The thought of heading straight to bed after the work day and not leaving my home was tempting, but something inside me urged me to step outside and get some fresh air instead.

Recognizing my body's need for a break and my mind's craving for a change of surroundings, I decided to take a leisure walk around my neighborhood as soon as the workday came to a close.

As I strolled down the familiar streets, I realized how seldom I slowed down to appreciate the little things around me. The flowers blooming in my neighbourhood's garden, the lush green trees lining the sidewalks, and the distant sounds of children playing in the park — all of these things had always been there, but I had never truly taken the time to notice them! 😳

A Photographer's Inspiration

During my walk, I was reminded of @galenkp who frequently captured the beauty of nature and flowers in all their glory. I admired how he had the ability to find beauty in the simplest of things and convey it through his photographs. Inspired by his work, I decided to try it out for myself!

I stopped at every colorful cluster of flowers and plants along the roadside, and with my smartphone in hand, I began to snap away. It was astonishing how my outlook shifted when I concentrated on the intricate features of each petal, the interplay of light and shadow, and the vivid colors from surrounding. While I'm still far from achieving the level of quality that @galenkp consistently produces, this shall be my earnest attempt at it! 😂

The Gift of a Sunset

As I proceeded with my stroll, I was presented with a treated to a breathtaking sight: the descending sun adorning the sky in shades of orange and pink. I hadn't previously given much thought to sunsets, but today, it seemed like a special gift, offering solace to both my body and mind, momentarily allowing me to forget about the discomfort that I am feeling! 😌

Feeling Better

By the time I returned home, I was feeling so much better. The combination of fresh air, the beauty of nature, and my newfound hobby of photography (or at least I found greater joy in doing so since my journey in Hive Blogging) had worked wonders. I realized that sometimes, it takes slowing down and appreciating the world around us to heal both body and mind.

In that simple walk through my neighborhood, I discovered the therapeutic power of nature and mindfulness. The act of capturing the intricate details of flowers and the changing colors of the sunset through my lens allowed me to immerse myself fully in the present moment. It was a stark contrast to the usual hurried pace of my life, where deadlines and responsibilities often consumed my thoughts.

A valuable lesson for me to slow down, appreciate the world's beauty, and find solace in the simple pleasures of life, especially when life's demands start taking their toll 🤗

Thank you my friend @jlufer, I am feeling much better today! 😊

Yeah the day off from the office is much needed indeed even though I still had to continue with work back at home but at least that is in the comfort of my own place which definitely helps!

A change in scenery and a breathe of fresh air always do the trick for the mind and soul! 😁

Appreciating beauty and nature when we are walking is great, we often pass it by without seeing it and it is there all the time. It's good to stop and admire it.

Thank you very much for this walk @ak08 ❤️

Yeah it is surprisingly that I never noticed such stuff even though I have been living in this area for such a long time. Thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment, really appreciate it 😊

I think you made a very sensible choice taking a day at home, sometimes we all need to do that take a break from it all or as much as one can while keeping to ones commitments and it is very healing for ones mind and I am glad it helped you

So cool you were inspired to get those shots of the beautiful flowers

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

Thanks @tattoodjay for this platform where you remind us to do those walks!

Even though I still had to work through the day due to work deadlines, it was definitely a great choice staying home instead of commuting to the office for work that day! Learning to slow it down and recharge is as important for the road ahead! 😊

Will love to learn more about photography and get more beautiful shots of the nature!

Great realizations you had while taking this walk. We really need to slow down sometimes. We are too occupied with work that we forget to appreciate the beauty around us. Good that this walk with nature helped you feel better. I love the sunset photo. Beautifu!

Thanks for the compliment, just an amateur photographer and is still trying to properly make use of my phone camera since I have seen amazing photos captured with an iPhone!

Yeah we really do need to slow down and enjoy the little things that we don't normally notice, even though it is just in my neighborhood and I have probably walked along this route multiple times! 😅

Will definitely do it more often in the future!

This is really beautifully written 👏

And so spot on.

Love the part about seeing things you've walked by every day for the "first" time. :)

It's so weird that we walk around mostly asleep while we believe we're awake, isn't it? A life half lived, really. Being so very "busy living."

And yes. The body let's us know when we need to slow down. Nice that you caught it ;)

Thanks for the reminder.

It's so weird that we walk around mostly asleep while we believe we're awake, isn't it? A life half lived, really. Being so very "busy living."

This is so true, and it's a regrettable reflection of the world we live in today. Even when I did the leisure walk in my neighborhood, it's evident that people aren't fully appreciating the beauty of their surroundings, as they are entirely absorbed in their mobile phones, thus missing out on fully experiencing the present moment of life.

Thanks for checking in and I do appreciate what you've said as well! 😊

Rest is important. No value to wear yourself out and end up getting harder to recover.

Yeah bro thanks! It really is especially when age is catching up.
The body does take a much longer time to recover. Health is wealth 😊

'seldom I slowed down to appreciate the little things around me'

Good that you managed to in the first place see the little things and in the second place appreciate the little things around you!
Try to pay attention to them more often and your life will be even better! ;)

Great article!

Yeah funny how those were missed when I probably walked these route multiple times before!
Makes me wonder what I was doing while passing by these "beauties" 😅

Thanks for checking in and giving me the compliments, I really appreciate them! 😊

Although I try to see and enjoy those everyday beauties, I can often discover something new as well the 5th or 10th or... time I walk by..
It's just the beauty of Earth and life I guess..
Have a nice day! :D
